Network Topology Tips?

Is there a standard, or a set of best practices for drawing network topologies? I'm looking for tips and tricks to create a network topology that is clear and easy to understand at a glance. Although I've used SolarWinds extensively, I've never created a Network Atlas Map and need to revamp the current one, which is quite confusing and disorganized.

Here's an example:

Both Maps have the same devices on them but grouped totally differently. One map is by device type, the other one is by physical location.

you might want to look at creating it fresh with „orion/intelligent Maps“

other than that, it really depends on the nature of the map. Upload a nice background and place the elements accordingly. Or draw „boxes“ around logically grouped devices.
there is no „best practice“ really as maps/visualization is something really „personal choice“
