Identify and transfer all dashboards from one user to another before deleting a user

Hello team,

There was a person who managed SolarWinds at my workplace and they have been let go. The issue is that their user account has several dashboards in production that are used to monitor services. Now that they no longer work at the institution, we want to delete their user account, but first, we want to identify everything that is tied to their account so that no services are affected. We would like to transfer the dashboards to another user.

Please provide me with the step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

1) Run a report with all dashboards, reports, alerts, filtering the owner ( user you need to change)

2) manually with the report assing a new owner. you can do this with a query but, I suggest do this first on a dev enviromnent.

3) if the query test worked, backup the database and run the query.

Best way to do it is to ask the old SolarWinds admin to come in and handover the dashboards and explain anything that is important to the new SolarWinds admin. If a company has let go of a SolarWinds admin maybe they should have thought about this before they made that decision to let someone go. I would always be happy to go in and help a new admin even if I was let go. It also raises questions about documentation and management of the platform. I document all my dashboards and make them available to all as and when they are produced if suitable. The dashboards are then used for inductions and training sessions. Anyway the point I'm trying to make is that we shouldn't get our self into this sticky situation with templates and dashboards assigned to users who might not be around or if we do it this way we must document everything so that it can be easily recovered and recreated.

To be honest there are not many settings within SolarWinds that will become a problem when an account is removed. If the old Admin had their credentials set up to perform any Scheduled Tasks or SAM Actions, then those might be a problem. Modern Dashboards can have the Owner changed by an Admin level account, so go to Manage Dashboards, filter by Dashboards created by the old admin and "Set Owner" to a different account - For what it's worth you might consider having a local account that you share with any other SolarWinds admins to prevent this in the future. I have a team of 4 engineers and we use our accounts, but anything approved for public use gets moved to the admin account to own.

what I do is disable the account, in the AD, with this you can be sure that is secure and its not going to break something

To avoid the situation in the future: create a group in Active Directory and replicate the configuration to the group. This way you just have to change AD not Solarwinds.

Most Dashboards/Views are shareable so those can just be applied to the AD group
