Log Parser powershell variable for file name

so i see in the script arguments the absolute file name

However, the filename i want to monitor changes daily. Ex: C:\logs\debug.2024-08-13

I want to monitor the current day's file for a pattern. Is there a way to do this (I'm guessing via a variable)?

You'd want to do this directly in the script, but yeah totally doable. Start with one of the templates files and ask chatgpt for an amendment, probably faster than finding a perfect example

I recognize you are specifically reaching out for powershell, but I just completed this for a cron job and figured I'd present you with my solution:

Situation:

New log is generated every weekend after a cron job with results. We wanted to check the current log for failure return codes. Problem was, the OoB log parser for linux is wanting a static filepath as the argument. I know you could make a custom script to look for a variable like you're asking above, but we broke it out into what I view as a simpler step. We created a static log file that the log parser monitors. Then, we have an additional cron job to update and link our static log file to the newest log file of the task we are monitoring. This way, the script is just linked to whatever the current log is.

For example:

create C:\logs\debug_latest.log

cron job or bake into your script a method to link to -or overwrite contents of debug.latest.log with your example of C:\logs\debug.2024-08-13

This way you have a static file path for your log parser script, and it is constantly updated to latest log file you are caring about.
