What format does the send alert as a GET or POST need?

I have done some learning on how to send commands to our Juniper switches, but I need the format from Solarwinds to be correct.

If I use a GET, all the "code" in in the URL line. If I use a POST there is a block to put the body of text in.

If been successful with a REST API Explorer, but it uses XML or JSON or Plain Text. I'm not sure how to format the request settings in Solarwinds.

Headers need to get stuck in the URL, that's probably the bit that's throwing you.

Here is rbc code as Juniper tells me for a power off command:

So, do I need the headers in the URL line and the rbc stuff in the body?

I don't love the built in alert action to post to a website, it always seems to be a little bit more limited than whatever I am working on. A way that might save you a lot of head scratching would be to just use that Run a program action to execute curl.exe, that way you can probably just snag the exact curl syntax to use from whatever vendor docs you are working from.

I believe the answer is probably yes, but hard to say for sure without testing it futher, @mesverrum 's workflow is a good one and can keep you close to a known working good curl if need be

Is that something I can do with Solarwinds and just install cURL on the SW server to send out the commands?

Curl is already installed by default by microsoft for most current releases of desktop windows. But yes you can install it on server.

What I'm not fond of, in the cURL line, is that it will show the username/password pair in simple text as part of the URL. There is a section below the URL line or the body to have a credential, on the screen in SW. I don't know if that would improve things, as the switch would still have to have some login passed to it, to be able to perform the commands I am thinking of running.

Is there a doc that explains the syntax of the URL line? I've been experimenting with what needs to be in the URL line and what needs to be in the "Body to Post" box without success.
