Top 10 CPU from Performance Analyzer

On my individual Node Summary pages, I get a lovely Resource Utilisation view, pulling data seemingly from the Performance Analyzer. Is it possible for me to get a Top 10 CPU - This VM view to add as a widget in my new modern dashboard summary view? Ideally, I'd like a Top 10 of each of the resources displayed in that box, so CPU, Memory and Network usage.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Hey Gareth ... the current global IT issue prevents me logging in to details how we have done this, but the short answer is yes.

The longer answer is that so long as you can craft a bit of SWQL to extract the data then you can definitely present it via a modern dashboard. One of my long-standing bugbears with SW is/was their Top 10. Due to the way we use SW it is deployed as a 'shared service' and we have dozens of clients kit monitored via it. But when you want to see why a particular client is having issues then the the old top 10 was useless - especially if they are a smaller entity.

Thankfully a modern dashboard, some SWQL code and a custom property were all we needed to resolve this. Now we have a Top 10 for each client and it's easy to see their busy or potentially failing nodes.

Remind me next week when access is restored and I'll flesh out some detail if you wish?

Hey Adam. We already have a custom property that uniquely identifies each client.

All I've done is create a bunch of modern dashboards showing Top X for CPU or Interfaces etc and narrowed it down to only search for nodes where the CP = That specific client.

An example from top 10 percent of memory used is:

SELECT TOP 10 
Caption, 
PercentMemoryUsed, 
DetailsURL

FROM Orion.Nodes as a
JOIN Orion.NodesCustomProperties as b ON a.NodeID = b.NodeID
-- replace ZZZ with relevant client prefix

WHERE b.ClientPrefix LIKE '%ZZZ%' AND Caption NOT LIKE '%AP%'

In the WHERE line I also had to add in an exclusion to remove Thin APs from the list, but needs vary.

I just realised we don't have a TOP 10 CPU widget, so guess what I'm going to add when a few moments allow.

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your reply - that's really helpful - and yes if you do manage to work out how to get a CPU monitor working, seeing how you would do that would be really useful too. We have a lot of applications which react to customer calculation requests and so CPU load is a metric we need to have central in our monitoring. Currently we use an old top 10 view as part of an old summary dashboard and we find the information coming from that is inaccurate and clunky most of the time. So hopefully being able to get the performance analyser data through instead to a dashboard would be ideal!

I'll take the SWQL for your memory monitor and have a go at modifying that for CPU myself. If I have any success I'll make sure to post it here.
