How Create an alert for data center interfaces

This is my first time setting up some alerts for specific data center interfaces if they go down or unknown.

I put the interfaces in their own group so it would be easier to configure alerts for the four interfaces.

I started configuring the alert but ran into some issues when trying to configure the message in the alert for it to report on the interface that is having issues. I probably need to poke around in SWQL and figure out how things report in Groups.

So I thought I would create a Custom Property for the interfaces since I have used custom properties for alerting before. But it looks like I cannot add interfaces to a custom property.

If someone could point me in the right direction via instructions on THWACK or Solarwinds that would be great.

I will continue to plug away at this and if I figure it out will post here.

Figured out my Custom Property issue - I had it set to Nodes not Interfaces.

A BIG YES on using custom properties for interfaces. I would consider not using groups, but that is just me. I have setup special interface alerts using a simple yes/no custom property and the alert scope just looks for yes on that property. It is simple and works well.
