We're rolling out Solarwinds to replace our IP monitor setup Our IP monitor setup was pretty simple, we had a bunch of servers grouped together that would send out an email if they were down for 5 mins for one group, or 10 mins for another.
The solarwinds engineer suggested we put all our nodes in groups and then alert on the group being down. But another department who has the same needs as us was told to assign all the nodes custom properties and set alerts on that.
Right now we're just trying to get an email if the nodes dont respond to pings, but eventually we'll monitor disk space, cpu etc.
Do most people use groups or custom properties?
