Using Universal Device Poller in Alerts

I have created a group in the Universal Device Poller for Tripp-LIte UPSes. One of the pollers I have called TrippLite_batteryStatus, which is a table with text descriptions of the battery.

Here is a MIB list of what the values are:

I am having trouble finding the device poller in SolarWinds so I can crreate an alert when the UPS is on battery. The best I could find is a condition " Custom Node Poller - OID ( Custom Poller) is equal to the oid 1.3.6.1.4.1.850.1.3.4.1.1.3.1.7 whic is the " On Battery " condition in the table. I know there must be a better way, since the alert is not triggering when I pull the plug on the UPS to test this alert. I hopped to be able to see this custom poller I created and have it trigger when it equaled the string " On Battery "

Have you tried tlpUPSSecondsOnBattery .1.3.6.1.4.1.850.1.1.3.1.3.1.1.1.2.1 ? I've used the same principal on a UPS (different vendor, different OID but same principal), the trigger condition should look something similar to the screenshot below (change the Unique name to what you've named your UnDP after for 1.3.6.1.4.1.850.1.1.3.1.3.1.1.1.2.1)

Although the above works, I would recommend going a different path. If your UPS supports syslog/SNMP Traps, point it towards your SolarWinds server and create an alert based on within syslog/traps. The benefit is that the event is generated on the device time in real time, thus immediately triggering the alert in the SolarWinds side. This can be crucial in this scenario as every minute counts when a UPS is on battery. Have a look on your vendor's documentation if this is supported, then create an SNMP Trap alert like the one below:

I do have an alert that does use "upsSecondsOnBattery" , but it was under the APC vendor rather than using Tripp-Lite mibs which is the brand we have. Since Tripp-Lite has mibs and I have had them put into our organization mib database, I would like to use them when I can.

As a general question who should I utilize pollers created in the Unversal Poller applicatiion in the Solarwinds software? I've created gauges from those pollers but not an alert. I've tried surfing for any videos or tutorial pages and many of them are over a decade old and the screens are now different.

The 'upsSecondsOnBattery' is just the name of the UnDP, you can name it anything you want. The above is not even an APC device.

The Universal Device Pollers haven't changes much over the past few years, they are still defined in the 'SolarWinds Platform Universal Device Poller' application, accessible through the SolarWinds server in an RDP session.

Try to create one for '1.3.6.1.4.1.850.1.1.3.1.3.1.1.1.2.1', which is the Seconds on Battery value for Tripp-Lite products, name it after anything you like and give it a try. Bear in mind that you should set the poller to a more frequent polling interval (or it will poll at the same polling intervals when the node is polled -default is 10 mins).

OK, that's good to know. How do you find your list of pollers you may have created in the Universal Device Poller within SolarWinds? All I see is one or two simply called Custom Poller. Neither are the ones I see in Universal DP.
