this has been asked for quite a few times over the years -
WHY are we still using TELNET and HTTP as defaults on node details pages? TELNET is the FIRST thing a network engineer/admin/tech will disable on a switch, as well as Linux. Microsoft doesnt install it anymore. - ALL best practices i have ever read have you disable TELNET.
I would like to see AT LEAST an option to PICK what we need/what for a node - or change these defaults to SSH and HTTPS
PLEASE...
I'd suggest this goes in a feature request instead. Agree it is outdated now.
Agree, it IS outdated and not secure. There is NO reason to still be using telnet in your network, none at all. Except for maybe a LAPTOP consoled directly to a switch. Solarwinds, get this added and make SSH the default for the Node Details widget.
I also agree on this.
If our cyber team finds telnet and/or http is in use, they'll red flag it. They want those protocols to be not available.Corporate policy does not allow telnet to be used or installed. Firewalls by default block those ports in my shop unless a risk exception and business case is submitted and approved. then it has to be renewed several times a year so it involves extra work to maintain.
