Hello I would like to now how these groups are created and I'm wanting to create some custom groups for Configuration Management. Is custom groups possible and if so where would I get started?

Those are default fields in solarwinds. You can put values into them like site(by editing the node and you can also do it in bulk), but I think vendor is automatically generated. @donrobert5 - I couldn't agree more. To shed more light on Custom Properties, here is an example I made.
I went to Manage Custom Properties and created "Site", to whom I assigned to nodes with existing configs in them. Why? Because if I randomly assign the custom properties to just any nodes, the Custom Properties "Site" exists but it will not reflect on the "Group By" section of Config Management.
***NOTE: Those groups in Orange are out-of-the-box custom properties. Everything above those, are default groups in Config Management. "Site" is a custom Property I manually added.***
