I am still running Solarwinds Orion - not quite sure where this question should land.
I have been developing a migration plan with our Solarwinds partner. We decided to use the same server names and IP addresses to minimize any extra work for the migration.
This is detailed out more in the our plan but here is the broad overview of our migration.
- We are going to migrate the MPE and APE first and migrate the SQL server after the new polling engines have been up and running for a bit
- Plan is to snapshot current polling engines in case we need to go back.
- Rename old polling engines and also disable virtual NICs in VMWare so they never come back online.
- Name the New polling engines the old name names
- Give new polling engines old IP addresses
- Run configuration wizard after everything is installed
- That should be all
I have details steps for the update. I do not want to post them there since they contain names and IPs.
All reporting has moved to web versions so that should not be an issue. We plan on copying the NCM folder over.
Just checking to see if there are any other gotchas or issues.
I have had a few days to think about this and saw the HA Failover used to migrate to new nodes. Has anyone done HA failover? That seems like it might be a little less risky.
