Change polling method from WMI to Agent for existing nodes.

Hello everyone, I did some research and could not find a clear answer. I want to be able to change the polling method from WMI to Agent for existing nodes without losing any historical data or custom properties. I read that doing it in bulk in the GUI requires you to use a saved credentials but we plan to use the "localsystem" account.

As you said, when changing in bulk via the Web Console GUI it requires you to allocate credentials however this is only used for the initial deployment. After deployment it will use the LOCAL SYSTEM account for any polling jobs locally on the endpoint.

If you don't wish to deploy this via the SolarWinds Web Console and provide credentials to do this, you can pre-install the agent software on the nodes you want via your preferred deployment software. After the Agent software has been deployed installed on these endpoints, SolarWinds will recognise this when changing the Polling Method which I then believe will not require credentials when changing the polling method as the connection is already configured when installing the agent software.

You will not lose custom properties tied to the node when doing this and I am almost certain no historical data is lost when changing polling method. Data is only purged when its retention period is exceeded or if you delete a node
