Issue with Installing APE in Different Domain

Dear Team,

We currently operate across three domains: alpha, beta, and gamma.

At present, MPE, DB, and three APEs are situated within the alpha domain, and they are functioning properly.

In the beta domain, installation of one APE has been successfully completed, and it is operational.

However, I encountered an issue while attempting to install an APE in the gamma domain. Unfortunately, despite meeting all prerequisites, I have been unable to proceed. Please find the error log below:

2024-04-29 16:56:12,929 [1] ERROR (null) SolarWinds.Administration.Client.Program - System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectory.ActiveDirectoryServerDownException: The server is not operational.

Name: "alpha.com"
---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: The server is not operational.

Your assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated.

First thing that I would check is DNS. The Main Polling Engine (MPE) and Additional Polling Engines (APE), need to be able to resolve both their hostname and FQDN to function properly. I've had to manually update the host file for APEs when on different domains where DNS isn't automatically propagated.

Other than that, it's checking port connectivity:

TCP 5671 (Message Queue): Bidirectional between MPE and APE.
TCP 17777 (Module Sync): Bidirectional between MPE and APE.
TCP 1433: Unidirectional from MPE to DB and APE to DB. 1433 is the default SQL port.

Maybe a very old thought, give it a shot lets see if it works.

Did you try updating etc hosts file on your gamma domain APE, i am just guessing it could be something to do with your AD, by updating your etc hosts file you can avoid that.

In your gamma domain APE update all hosts under etc host (i mean the ones that really needs to talk, even your DB host details if its running on IAAS or on a VM), do the same on your MPE VM which is in alpha - update etc hosts file in alpha just add the host details that is in gamma.
