I have thousand of devices that needs to be moved from one WMI credential to another WMI credential. Is there a way it can be done without doing it manually on Manage Nodes?
It depends, is there something which can link the devices together in a query such as a custom property that they all share?
Of course there is this way of doing it - https://solarwindscore.my.site.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Change-WMI-credentials-for-all-nodes-at-once?language=en_US - which is just checking all WMI nodes on manage nodes > edit properties and then change the credentials.
Assuming you want this done not to ALL WMI nodes but only a group of them, it will be easier if we can find a common denominator between them all so we can do a mass selection or query.
Another way is if they are all sharing the same saved credential in SolarWinds you can change the credential in the Windows credential library and I believe this should update for all of them (I have not tested this so please test first)
You can access this library by going to Settings > All Settings > Manage Windows Credentials
From here just select the credential that is assigned to all those nodes and edit it to the updated credential.
Again I will stress, please test this with just a few nodes first before rolling out to all of them.
Please let me know if the above is useful
Common denominator is Polling Engine. But these using different polling engine for almost 2000 devices we need to update the WMI credential.
And is it not possible to use the method of updating the WMI credential in the credential library? This is assuming that most of them use the same credential as a WMI service account of sorts.
Manage nodes -> group by Polling engine -> Select all -> Edit -> check creds box -> change creds
