Create an uptime dashboard

Hello,

I need an "uptime dashboard" to display the availability of some services/nodes/https URLs/links to managers. The availability we need should be displayed preferably in percent and during a certain period of time e.g. "This Year", "Last Month", etc. as a chart or table. I was able to find a widget called "availability of each node" which included all nodes while we only need some specific ones.
I am wondering if anyone can help me with this request.

Hi...rather than look for widgets, my suggestion would be to dig into Modern Dashboards. They present information, especially for management level in a much more approachable manner and give them the quick insight they typically need.

If you've not created an MD yet, then start with this: All in on Modern Dashboards then head here: Modern Dashboards to download already created dashboards to install 'as is' or to use as a starting point.

@stuartd is definitly pointing you in the right direction. The All In document is a great starting point. @KMSigma.SWI has this published: Overall Node Availability (Last 7 Days) - Modern Dashboards - The Orion Platform - THWACK (solarwinds.com), which will give you the logic for the Node Availability - Last 7 days. The logic shouldn't be terrible to update to change it from 7 days, to last 30 days. IN theory should be able to do last month or current year, but haven't looked that far into it.

If you dont want to dive into the SWQL, here's a couple options:

1) Use a filter over whereever your current availability metric is, to select only the stuff you care about

2) Add stuff to groups, use the availability numbers from the groups (doesnt backdate though)

I am not much familiar with SWQL. So, I am wondering if there is any other options to do this in an easier way.

If there is a preconfigured widget in the classic dashboard, you could use that for starters. You would most likely need to build a group and then limit the view to that specific group. Besides the precanned widgets, SWQL will be your best bet.

SWQL is pretty much SQL queries. They have some preferred/best practice ways of calling the tables in SWQL vs SQL, but if you are comfortable with writing general DB queries it isn't too difficult to pick up. They main issue I run into is when I'm talking to my DBA and he is looking at stuff from the SQL side, or they recommend a function that doesn't exist in SWQL.

That's why I pointed you at the MD Content download page as there are a number of dashes already there. As @SteveK points out, changing a dash from 7 to 30 days is easy even I was able to do it in my fledgling SWQL/SQL days (still am a fledgling TBH).

Me either but if you know SQL then you are 90% there. If you don't know either (like myself) then if you are to use Solarwinds in any meaningful format then I urge you to start diving in. I am a long way from proficient but I can string a basic query together and 90% of MD's are built on basic queries.

For e.g.

SELECT COUNT(*) AS [100% Available]
FROM (
SELECT [Nodes].Caption
     , AVG([Nodes].ResponseTimeHistory.Availability) AS [Availability]
FROM Orion.Nodes AS [Nodes]
JOIN Orion.NodesCustomProperties AS NCM ON [Nodes].NodeId = NCM.NodeID
WHERE NCM.ClientPrefix LIKE '%XX%' 
-- Put whatever filters here
AND [Nodes].ResponseTimeHistory.DateTime BETWEEN GETDATE() - 7 AND GETDATE() -- this is where you define your time period
GROUP BY [Nodes].Caption
HAVING AVG([Nodes].ResponseTimeHistory.Availability) = 100
)

The line

> AND [Nodes].ResponseTimeHistory.DateTime BETWEEN GETDATE() - 7 AND GETDATE() -- this is where you define your time period

...is the time period in the above query. If you want the last 30 days, just change the 7 to 30 and so on.
