How do the additional polling engines update the Solarwinds database?

I want to remove Microsoft SQL from my Solarwinds servers. I've had a ticket open with support for more than 17 days. I'm told I can remove Microsoft SQL server and Microsoft SQL client but I can't seem to get the answer of how the database gets updated. It is a standalone Microsoft SQL database running on separate servers.

Have you already moved the database to a new SQL instance? If so, then you can follow the steps in Migrate the SolarWinds Platform database to a new server to keep your data.

We moved the database to a separate standalone database a couple of years ago when we went to version 2020. Now our security scan shows some vulnerabilities in the SQL products that remain on the main platform and the additional polling engines. Tech support told me I could remove all SQL products off my main platform and additional polling engines but I can't seem to get an answer to "how is the main platform and additional polling engines updating the stand alone database?" The stand alone database is Microsoft SQL. It seems to me you'd have to have sql on the servers to communicate with the database. I am therefore confused on how I can remove all sql products off my servers.

Pretty sure you need the ODBC drivers but not a local SQL instance, I think you get those from particular feature installs

Something like SWQL -> SQL -> DB on whatever setting you set in the config wizard

I finally got a response from support. It looks like what is required is Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server and Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server. Now I just have to figure out if I remove the Microsoft SQL server and Microsoft SQL client if it removes these drivers and if it does how do I get them back.
