Monitor two internet links

Hi, I hope you are doing great

I have 2 internet interfaces from 2 different service providers and it's connected to the same Cisco router in different interfaces, the question is what is the best way to monitor the internet service availability links, if the internet is not reachable through interface1 the router will switch to the other interface. Is the Netpath a good idea by monitoring SSH on the router from 1st link and another protocol through the 2nd link?

I'm running SAM and NTA, any idea?

Maybe could use NetFlow on those ports to send info to platform but would recommend getting NPM to monitor correctly

yes, I can ping the next hop, I'm getting what you mean.

I think you mean, do you mean to monitor the next hop IP by ping( add it as a node).

It's a bit of work to set up, but you can have a monitor set to figure out which of those two intefaces are in use, and report which ISP you're on or if it changes. I did it in API Pollers, which I think is a SAM feature now, but could be done in Applications/Components too

I dont recommend SAM SSH, i've done that too and it was very painful and prone to bugs

NPM would be helpful

You could get a SNMP OID/MIB monitor on those interfaces, status and traffic

Then a SAM component looking at solarwinds with some logic like

Pull Interfacemonitors A,B

Report if any are down

If both up, rank by avg traffic

Report traffic[0]

something like that depending exactly what you're trying to do

Thanks for the answer, but I think monitoring the traffic is not helpful (correct me if I was wrong)!!.

I need to know the state of the backup link regardless of is currently used or not, if the backup link is up and not currently used there will not be any traffic, monitoring the traffic does not help me much.
