Remove 'Self-Test' Failure Events in Last 25 Events log

Hello all,

I'm trying to get rid of some UPS Self-Test alerts that trigger when an APC UPS in my environment performs a self test. It's listed as an event "UPS Last Fail Cause has changed" event in the Event Summary log.

We have APC and Eaton UPS in our infrastructure and the APCs are the only ones that throw these (or any) alerts in the form of events.

Could someone please tell me how I can get these events to stop showing up in the event log?

The only way to do that would be to remove this widget and replace it with a Custom SWQL Query widget.

Then you can code the widget to show what you want.

Here's the code we use in a widget for just that sort of thing - but you would need to edit it to include/exclude specifics.

WHERE [Events].Nodes.NodeID = ${NodeID}
ORDER BY [Events].EventTime DESC

Without having any of your nodes in our environment I can't guarantee, but maybe adjust the WHERE line to look like:

WHERE [Events].Nodes.NodeID = ${NodeID} AND Message NOT LIKE '%Self Test%'

The bit in bold may need to be adjusted to suit your actual column name. Also adjust the number of events to suit.

Will that give me events for 1 node, or any/all nodes?

I'm not currently versed whatsoever in SWQL, I'll have to brush up quite a bit if I want to implement this. No matter how I change the SWQL code, even leaving it the same, I still get "There was an error processing the request." displayed in the output of the Widget.

And thanks a ton for your help, even if I can't implement it right now due to lack of knowledge. This does point me in the correct direction at least.

It will list the events for the node that you are viewing, assuming you have added a Custom Query widget to a node global view page and not a specific page.

Out of interest, what version of SolarWinds are you running?

And yes, getting into SWQL will aid you immensely with SolarWinds - it is something I am still very much a beginner with some 4yrs later, but without even that fledgling knowledge our environment would be much the poorer. I thoroughly recommend getting SWQL Studio and using that.

I'm not exactly sure what version I'm running. Here's a snippet of the Platform Info page if it helps.

It now makes sense that the widget didn't work if that SQWL statement is per node. The page that I took that picture from is sort of a summary page that has several assets reporting information.

Do you have a SQWL statement that might work for a page similar to the image below? Thanks a ton! I'm going to check out SQWL studio.
