What SolarWinds products require java

We have requirement to move to Open JDK (off of Oracle JRE).

Three questions:

1) Which SolarWinds products require Java?

2) Can I replace the Oracle JRE with Open JDK and if so, which version?

3) I specifically see JRE installed on the Front-End Server. What would break if I uninstalled this?

I've also wondered this, and I'm unsure. JMX bridge almost certainly needs it, otherwise I dont think it's very core. Would be a great test to backup, uninstall, see what happens, restore.

As far as I'm aware the latest versions of the SolarWinds Platform installs OpenJDK - I believe for the SAM (Server and Application Monitor) product specifically used for the SolarWinds JMX Bridge service. So with the basics - that service will likely not start. Might not be an issue if you don't license that product and the service isn't in use but I can't say if it would cause any other issues. I'd bet the configuration wizard may throw a fit though...

What version you're on and what other products / modules you have on the server may also affect that.

Update the JDK and JRE for Orion Platform products that utilize Java, including SAM and VMAN (solarwinds.com)

I agree that I believe the newer versions use the Open JDK, after talking with Support.

They also pointed me to an article (although very old) that calls out what uses java:
