I am creating a new set of SNMP alerts to report when an interface goes down, but some of my interface indexes are not unique

I thought I could use the interface index as a way to identify them all and use that to report via email that the interface was down, but I have duplicates. Is there true variable or field I can use instead of the index?

I have about 31 interfaces in our WAN I want to monitor, but 11 of them are not unique. can I change the index number on an interface to resolve this?

I thought the mac address would work, but what I see in SW is that mac address is the same for each pair of interfaces. I know this is not the case as each interface is a fiber SFP with a unique mac addr. Does the "Interface Details" poll the "ifPhysAddress" MIB to find that data it shows?

You could try these:

${N=SwisEntity;M=MAC} --- this should be the interfaces MAC address

${N=SwisEntity;M=PhysicalAddress} --- this is likely the same as the MAC variable above

${N=SwisEntity;M=InterfaceID} --- this is the unique identifier of the interface in SolarWinds

I use this in alerts on interfaces: ${N=SwisEntity;M=Caption} ${N=SwisEntity;M=Status} on ${N=SwisEntity;M=Node.Caption}

That way it turns out to be like MyInterface Down on MyNode

I found I can't use the Mac address because they are all Aggragate Interfaces ( two sfps per connection ) and the switch only reports a single address for both interfaces. InterfaceID is unique? I'll give that a look. Do you happen to know the OID path to that one?

All the Interface IDs were unique, so that should be the solution I was looking for.
