SAM Monitor to change custom property

Hello all

I have a SAM monitor (using python) that detects when our Polling engines have failed over,

what i want to do next if they have failed over, is change a custom property i have created depending on wether they are active/standby

I know how to do this using alerting but as these devices will most likely be muted when they fail over, this will never generate an alert.

Is there any other way we can change a custom property ??

You can change custom properties via the SDK as well.

Thanks for the quick response, i was hoping for something within solarwinds to make the change, and using sdk to update the DB as last resort ( just in case i break something)

You can change custom properties as an alert action as well. Perhaps when you SAM monitor detects a fail over it can execute an alert action to change the custom property and another alert action to run a script that unmutes the other set of nodes.

Issue i have there is if we are working on them the nodes will be muted so no alert will get generated so wont have an alert action,

I get emailed when the engines failover using the built in settings.

However, if you are muting/unmanaging these then alerts won't help directly, but you can set alerts on DNS changes in IPAM or for a node (on the IP that floats between engines).
Something like this thread: (+) Alert when Orion HA Failover occurs - Feature Requests - Server & Application Monitor (SAM) - THWACK (solarwinds.com) Since you aren't triggering on the object you want to update, if you need to change the custom properties you will need to script it with the SDK

This was the initial alert we were using but once it failed over and if we were going to be running active on the other side for a period of time we had to manually adjust the alert criteria, which i am now trying to do automatically, does look like i m going to have to script it with SDK
