SWQL Studio Jump Start

Hello, the NOC at my work has asked if I can help with SWQL report creation as the DBA that cares for the SolarWinds database. I have the Orion SDK and SWQL Studio installed and can connect with the tool. It doesn't look wildly different for T-SQL, but I was wondering if there was a jump start guide and / or data dictionary available to get me started?

I don't have any report requests yet so I'm just looking to understand the tool and process when exploring the data.

SWQL Walkthrough

SW doesn't publish a data dictionary but the structure of the DB is not the hardest I have ever seen. Usually for devs and dba's is they just dont have any background knowledge of how the various pieces of monitored infrastructure would naturally go together so stuff that seems relatively intuitive like "interfaces are child objects of nodes and I can associate interfaces to vlans" to a network engineer wouldn't necessarily be so obvious to someone who doesnt have the relevant hardware background. Unfortunately I don't think there is an easy way to just know that kind of stuff but when I was starting out I would just crawl through SWQL views until i understood what they were trying to do.

@ShawnJohnson_DBA Well, you're already off to a great start, having loaded up the SDK side of things already. I have found a wealth of information in the THWACK community, though it usually seems to be buried away and pretty well hidden, unless you already know what you need to find (which most of us didn't until we did).

I'd start with the content exchange, (+) Content Exchange (CX) - The Orion Platform - THWACK (solarwinds.com), then just deep diving through the searches for partial queries and following the trail until you find something that tickles your brain.

Thank you @planglois and @wluther for the links. The one "SolarWinds Query Language (SWQL) Basics" looks like what I'm after, but all I get is a 404 when I try to view it. Do I need anything special set up with my account to access the link?
