Can I poll a specific WIndows server with both WMI and SNMP credentials ?

Good day,

As a newbie to HCO, I would like to know if I can configure a specific Windows server for both WMI and SNMP credentials at the same time?

The server has an application that employs SNMP and I would like to setup a poller to poll teh SNMP agent, yet retain the WMI polling for the OS relates bits.

How do I go about doing this?

What sort of data do you need to collect out of the snmp agent for the application? Could use a SAM SNMP component monitor in an application which could be assigned to the WMI managed node, would need to figure out exactly which OID's to monitor.

If the SAM SNMP component monitor doesn't request a community string in its creation, how does it authenticate to the SNMP agent on the monitored WMI server?

Ah my apologies you're right, the component requires the node polling method to be SNMP. So looks like you would have to create another node monitored with SNMP potentially to do this.

If you adding the snmp service in program and featuring server configuration, you will see SNMP service included WMI, i think you can using SNMP for polling method bcs SNMP done including for WMI feature now

If you want to take this approach then:

1. You can only add a node to use either SNMP or WMI, you cant have both at the same time.

2. The only way to achieve this is by adding the same node onto different pollers. Add Node ABC as SNMP on poller1, then add the same Node ABC as WMI on poller2. Same IP Address/Node cannot reside on the same poller within SolarWinds.

But then this isn't a suggested approach though.
