Hi,
I need to raise alerts when SQL server jobs fail. I have no access to the SQL server from Solarwinds, but I have an agent installed on the SQL server and the agent can use an account with credentials to access the database.
I have SAM installed and working, and I guess I should use AppInsight for SQL. I have not found any native functionality to alert on job failure in AppInsight, so I have installed a template "https://thwack.solarwinds.com/content-exchange/server-application-monitor/m/application-monitor-templates/2545" from Thwack. Unfortunately it fails when I test it.
Now I wonder if the Thwack template is trying to access the SQL server directly (which firewalls would not allow) rather than via the agent.
So, here are the questions:
- Should I use AppInsight for this?
- Can AppInsight monitor SQL jobs without the need to install Thwack templates?
- Do Thwack templates that run SQL queries run via the agent or directly?
- Am I on the right track?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and even more thanks if you can help me.
