Unexpected Website Error

I am experiencing subjected error while opening any node in my network. It has been randomly occurred and nothing was changed at my end. I have opened the case as well but response is too slow and i am experiencing this issue since 14th Nov.

I need an urgent support here to resolve this issue.

Dumb question. Are Microsoft Patches sitting on any of your servers (Orion Server, SQL Server, Addition Web Server, or Additional Polling Engine, ETC.)?

Window Patches shoot me in the foot constantly. Implementing the patch isn't an issue. The problem is patches sitting on my server prior to implementing the patch and restarting the machine randomly breaks stuff. If our patching guys push a patch and server isn't restarted, server seems to fail or act up after a day or two while the patch is sitting there waiting to be implemented.

Still facing the issue and this is being faced while opening any node only.

(As an admin) look under Settings then My Deployment then the Deployment Health tab and see if any of the tests are failing. If they are try to correct any issues you may find there.

If you own the SAM product you can apply the Solarwinds Orion - Main Polling Engine and Solarwinds Orion - Additional Polling Engine templates to help pinpoint what may be going on.

Do you get any errors when the web page stops? If so please grab a screenshot and post it here.

There is also a Solarwinds event log in the Event Log Viewer that may provide some insite as well as well as the text logs you can look in.

Do you have screenshots or a description of the error? Looking at the logs in Step 3 here may help point out where the issue is - Orion Platform Troubleshooting Guide - Website Performance (solarwinds.com). Escalate the case with support by calling in and speaking to support may help if this is a critical issue.

There are some tests but none of them can be related to this. Website is working fine for all other tasks but it is not working only when i need to open any node in network.

Have you gone into Manage Views to see what all components/graphs charts, etc, and how many tabs are trying to load for those devices? I would make a test view, assign it to a specific node and see if that page loads up. Could be too much trying to load within the timeout window, or possibly and older component/gauge that needs to be removed.

I had a similar scenario many times with various versions of SolarWinds over the years. When we would open a node, the page would time out resulting in an Error.

We resolved it by changing the default view for the Node. To accomplish this, instead of clicking directly on the link to the name of the node to open it, go to Manage Nodes then click the checkbox by a node you want to test, then click 'EDIT PROPERTIES'.

In the properties for the node go to the 'View Type' dropdown and try changing the default view to another view type appropriate for the type of node in question. In our case it seemed like SolarWinds couldn't tell what kind of node it was (e.g. VM/server, network device, ESX Host, etc.) and that default view was not compatible with the node type or had an incompatible, or broken dashboard widget. This would cause the page for the node to be unable to load. When we changed the default view to another view, we could get into the node again. Once you find a view that works you should be able to select multiple nodes of the same type from the Manage Nodes screen, and change the views on all of them at once.

If you are using a customized dashboard view for all or some nodes, the custom view may have a widget that is not working. You could try reconfiguring your custom view and test removing one widget at a time.
