Upper management wants some new tech because they heard a bunch of cool buzz words from an enthusiastic speaker at a con. They don't understand how it works or why they need it but you better get it figured out NOW NOW NOW! *facepalm*

Great tips brandoncarroll! I'm starting to dip my toes into security because it's a good thing to have experience with in this industry.

Microsoft Surface: NSA Approves Windows 10 Tablets for Classified Work Interesting to note here that this is only for devices manufactured by Microsoft, and not other vendors such as HP or Dell. What's more interesting to note is how Microsoft continues to make progress in areas of data security for both their devices and…

What metrics do I really need? What is required to keep things running smoothly, without drowning in alerts and data? Too many alerts and too much data is a frighteningly common problem. Even worse, investing in a separate tool for each is costly and inefficient. Why would we invest in a separate tool when we have Solar…

Trump and His Android Phone Putting National Security at Risk I have no idea why we don't simply take away his toys. It's almost as if Trump has no idea about the risks involved. No one ever accused him of being smart or practical.

"It requires a tool which is not only useful for all of these teams, but preserves the chain of data (of troubleshooting) as it moves between specialties. In other words, if I'm the systems guy, I want to see the data that the network team is seeing, and the steps they've taken to resolve the problem; and I want to see it…

Companies should commit to budgeting for cyber security if they want to keep their proprietary, employee and customer information safe. It's just makes good sense.

SECURITY CERTIFICATIONS LOOK GOOD ON A RESUMEAnother fact that lends itself to the appeal is the fact that employers are looking for cybersecurity professionals, and there’s money in that work. Forbes said that there were 1 million cybersecurity jobs available in 2016. Information Week says that intrusion detection, secure…

BYOD does create problems for our IT dept. Mostly it's user related issues caused by them not retaining knowledge on how to connect to our corporate network and not taking the time to access documentation on network connections and wifi password info.
