I've been there. What I learned is you have to find the beauty in what you do. For me I picked several technologies (Solarwinds is one) that I dedicated my life towards perfecting. Once you get in the mindset of coming to work with a purpose that exceeds your boss, salary, etc then you will find plenty of joy in what you…

My story is interesting. I started off in high school learning C++ because I wanted to create a fighting game. I also learned HTML to make random websites all across the internet. That leads me to my first day enrolling in college. I remember going to the recruiter officer and getting asked what major I wanted to take. I…

I had a nightmare of an upgrade not too long ago. I ended up having to start over completely. I'll try and follow these guidelines next time. Im almost at a point where I'd rather create brand new servers, do a fresh install and migrate the database over if that's possible.
-
Thanks. I'll give that a try. I wasn't sure if it was normal behavior for a server to shoot up to 100% almost every 30 minutes to an hour. Is this a problem where I need to up the resources? or just something servers do?

Where do you see poll now? In SW or in Orion UDP
-
I think I've tried that. It gave me the same results. As of right now I have it configured as: node category = server AND node percentage loss is greater than 5% + if node status is = unknown, down, warning or unreachable then trigger. I may have over did it but ill test and see if that works by rebooting a few servers.

So if I take this exam and pass it, and Solarwinds decides to come out with a new one next year you[re saying I wouldn't be eligible for any of the benefits for the new material either?

I use WMI for all of my windows servers. The attached screenshot is my trigger conditions. When I get the alerts sometimes the VM shows the cpu/memory is high. sometimes they dont. I do have agents configurd on them as well

Lol at the solarwinds guy. Thats exactly what they call me
-
This is an underrated suggestion. It would actually build more credibility for the cert if they did this.
-
Now this is actually a really good idea.

I am looking at the link right now. I was hoping there was a good study guide resource that wasn't all over the place like that one is. You know something like Chapter 1: The basics of solarwinds NPM Chapter 5: Getting more advanced Chapter 10: Wrapping up what you need to know etc. But it doesn't look like that exists at…

I saw this article earlier https://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-31432 Do you know which device poller to use to see those fancy graphics?
-
Thank both of you gentlemen for your replies. I tried the first to links you've sent me with no luck. Correct me if Im wrong but the Universal Device Poller should let me know if any of the objects inside the Liebert were recognized by the package and imported? Because when I tested them they didnt work.
-
Thanks for your response. I created a UNDP for those values but can't pull them up in solarwinds. Is there a middle step to displaying them? Im using a Universal device chart
-
This is great. I just wish Solarwinds would have a better wireless monitoring module. Then I could monitor everything from a single location.
-
I wont post any sensitive info about our network but we added a weather map and a bunch of other statistics in ours.
-
Adjusting the evaluating trigger to change from every one minute to 5 minutes seems to have fixed the issue. thanks for all of your help.

I've tried just putting the node as down. the only problem is when the server reboots, the alert never goes off. I want the alert to tell me if it's down, even if just a second. I tried setting the last boot option but that usually triggers it to go off multiple times. Servers seem to be the only thing that's causing this…

Ask anyone at my job. I'm a solarwinds fanatic. But I have to agree with the rest of the crowd. A subscription based model isn't the best way to go for the certification. I don't mind paying the 200 for the test itself but to force people to pay it annually is a bit much. It does kind of feel like we are being nickeled and…

Is there a one stop study guide material source for the NPM exam? or it is just randomly finding videos and links on this site?
