Did anything come of this?

Both use the same dns server. Both can ping the <unknown> server --- by it's hostname.

Thanks Chris. so I can tweak the compression settings - excellent. whilst that wont help me in this case, it will help me going forwards - I'd like to be able to look at hourly data for the past week. Question - I've looked in the NTA Global Settings, but cannot see where to change the Hourly Granularity (I see two…

So to confirm: Solarwinds does not presently support vlan interfaces on the Cisco Supervisor 7-E?
-
Hi Yes I'm aware of that. We have the layer2-switched line in the config. We have SupIVs with the netflow daughter cards installed. We are getting netflow stats. We just aren't getting layer2 stats, ie. intra-vlan stats. We've had this problem for about 18mths - I look back on here every now and again to see if it's been…

we have NPM and NTA for 2500 nodes. surely you arent telling me I need to buy something else simply to monitor the response time to a destination that isnt mine? (We have toolset on 1 box and do not intend to roll it out - hence why we purchased NPM/NTA)

The Orion server and the snmp-polling server both use the same DNS server. Both can successfully ping the host that appears as <unknown>. Still no idea why Im getting <unknown> though :(
-
I had already looked there. As I said, I am concerned that my stack member that failed produced no alert, even though I am monitoring the stack ports to which it is connected.

Thanks for the input guys. I've found a product that does exactly what we need - Netflow Auditor. Cheap as well. Very happy :)
-
bump - anyone?

There was no 12.3(14)T for the 4500 series platform. It went from 12.2(54) SG1 ED to 15.0.2 SG(ED). I have yet to see a fix from Solarwinds that provides Layer2 netflow data from Cisco 4500 switches.

thanks for that Andy However, why does it only work for endpoints managed in NPM? What if I want to monitor connections to endpoints that are external to me (ie. a 3rd party or customer of ours)?
-
cheers Dom - that might be just what I need. I will add this and report back after the weekend. thanks
-
Thanks for that. I am concerned that this did not happen. I will be running a test on Saturday where I will again power down a member switch in the stack and see what happens. I have checked, and the stack ports are checked in the resources lists for the stack.

if only it were that easy. you try doing that when you want to look at a specific hour during last friday...
-
Yes, hence the "layer2-switched" command - I want to get intra-vlan switched (non-routed) information eg. from two hosts talking to each other in the same vlan.
-
Thats the first thing I thought it was - but the Orion server can happily resolve the name of the <unknown> device.
