Orrrr... the reports that I want my CIO to see! Can't wait for ThwackCamp 2017!!!

My company is still dipping their toes into Cloud. The water isn't quite right for us yet. Leadership is still intimidated by the ambiguity and lack of control that hosting on a public CLoud brings. We are still building and perfecting our hybrid Cloud. We first want to be able to provide services to the business from…

You are singing my tune.

I never got my 250 pts. for my survey. Did anyone else not get them?

It'll do you good to be a runner. And someone who is used to running inclines. OMG that last mile almost broke me and I was walking most of it. I get it why most 20 year olds washed out of paratrooper training. Running Currahee 3-5 times a week is torturous. With that being said I can't wait to go back.

I was --><-- close to finally pulling the plug on our datacenter and performing a comprehensive test. But bad weather caused our markets to work into the weekend. SO it has been postponed. 3+ month of working nights, weekends, holidays... all stalled. I am preparing my Thwack blog to post when it is all done. It will not…

"Don't re-invent the wheel" How many times do I say that in a day? Nice thing about SAP ABAP is that the "wheel" is nearly included in every program.

Monday bump!

Hey ! Nice Mitel 5340 on that desk there...

I went with what I perceived to be the real-world experienced answer and I got burned too.

jmarsack Watch the screens in the video. Be prepared to pause and look closely.

I've read several articles predicting the % of useful data within all this other "data". The percentages is incredibly low. And as the intensity of the data rises so willour response to it... and the change in human behavior. Interesting times ahead...

Google's new filter has some"groups" going ballistic right now as they are finding themselves on the"outs". The blowback to this Google change is very interesting.

Nice touch highlighting those three Solarwinds products. NTM and Kiwi really do deserve more love. The value adds that NTM offers over Network Atlas is considerable.

Just curious... what does your manager look like?

What would I do? Isolate IT Services into their own PerfStacks so that I could provide visibility to the Service Owners and allow them to troubleshoot perceived performance problems effectively. I am in the process of doing similar things with AppStack. Furthermore, I am also training them to use my custom dashboards for…

I responded to a similar blog about this a while ago. First we logged server logs. Then we logged switch logs. Then we logged firewall logs. And then application logs. But we had all this data and nothing to do with it. Then we went back and setup alerts. And more alerts, and more alerts. "Who is looking at all these…

Signed up and giddy!!! Woo Hoo!!!! Can't wait! Let's do it tomorrow! Yee Haw!!

One trait that I do find to be especially strong in the IT "Geek" realm, that is only rivaled by history buffs, is accuracy. Sci-fi, comic book adaptions, fantasy role playing, etc. The accuracy of the finest details is imperative. Change a color of a flag or the spelling of a name and the fanbase could lose their…

Uhh... I hate to be the dope to ask this... but have the Thwack points been awarded for this contest yet? <gulp!>

Mondays: I am the statistical anamoly. I like Mondays. My weekends are usually hectic with kid's stuff, yardwork, etc. On Monday I get to sit down and relax at work... lol Traceroute: Tracert = not the only tool in your toolbox! NetPath leads the way! ;-) NSA secrets - Why are we surprised? Did the name Kapersky not give…

Agreed mbleib and forgive me for not prefacing my comments for not clarifying that they are not directed at you. My statement is aimed at the point that I've heard the same sentiment for X amount of years now. New technology, new disciplines, be flexible, those who don't adapt get left behind, "Go Faster! Go More!", and…

The janitor article is reflective of the company/employee relationship that exists today. "Loyalty" is a term that is thrown around quite a lot when it comes to these relations. Much has been said about it and I don't believe it needs to be regurgitated right here. However, we do tend to wax nostalgic some about the "good…

This is helpful. We are in the process of converging our VTC MPLS with Glowpoint with our regular WAN. Circuits are being upgraded anywhere but I still want to throttle and monitor VTC. These points are good building blocks.

I do, in a sense, stand alone... and that is because I am a team of one. I am resistor corporate monitoring, DR/BCP, and Availability. Also, my 10+ years background of Enterprise IT is unique in my company's IT. I 've fought a lot of uphill battles convincing other groups to improve their processes and take an "Enterprise…

Many moons ago when I was working for Digex, the first managed website provider, I had a client that was having all sorts of issues with their new Cisco HA firewalls (circa 2007). The pair kept losing connection to each other some the secondary node kept trying to be primary. My Network Security team (firewalls, IDS, DNS,…

What has 2 thumbs and is excited for NPM 12??? This guy!!!

Personally I don't see a problem with U.S. Customs using social media. It's out there, it's public domain. If you don't want anyone to see it, don't post it. I am fine with putting some more responsibility back on the individual instead of blinders on our law enforcement. There is no right to privacy violation. If there…

Who here has Microsoft Premier Service? Who here feels like they do a good job extracting value from it?

Oh man... my skin is crawling while I read this. 80/20... <shiver> I interpret the 80/20 rule as an opportunity to cut corners and brush things under the run. And far too often those things have come back and bit me in the butt later down the road. I'm a process junkie and my motto as a service delivery manager has been,…
