Did you watch Orphan Black? One of the clones pulled out her mechanical eyes. Icky!!!

Big ERP's like SAP is pushing for Blockchain hard. They recognize the perceived benefits of Blockhain for global business and they are trying to position themselves as a global leader. More corporate backing legitimizes this technology.

Silly question: If I have latest NPM/SAM/AppInsight for Exchange running, is there anything I can't do that is listed in this article? Ironically enough, yesterday's Mission question had a nice little infograph on "Why is Mail Slow?" that focused on the AppStack.

No. No it isn't. Them and Oracle are neck and neck from priciest software, and they are competitors. SAP, however, is winning in market share. I think Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, landed Bush because he was able to land Michelle Obama. And Michelle and Bush are good friends.

What IT Professionals Day is lacking is a catchy greeting, and I don't mean a parody of an existing one. (That would be too cheap) And a serious question. I don't mean to come off as sounding contrary... But when did we reach the tipping point of "IT is everywhere"?

What I tell my team of Level 3 administrators when it comes to my vision of automation is: I am not looking to replace you guys with automation. I am looking to automate the tasks that you elitists punks feel are beneath you so they aren't getting done today.
-
You are absolutely correct. My infrastructure sucks because of all the uniqueness, the general lack of adherence to process, and the constant change. Our infrastructure basically turns over every 3 years. I can't sell automation here because nothing stands still.

In my experiences I have found that Requirements evolve and morph over the life of a project. Gaps widen when there Is no built-in flexibility for expectations during the Design & Development phases. Nonsense like this drove me away from being a PM. While I am not technical like most on here I am a self-admitted control…

Heavy cash flow is an understatement. Their campus in Newtown Sq. PA, is nothing short of pristine. Their customer list is Fortune 100 and more.

Umm, yea. About that... We just kept on raping and pillaging and being wary of the sadistic DM (who was also our ride to 7-11 to stock up on the all night sessions). Our approach was, "Idle hands does the devil's work." So instead we destroyed towns. :-)

Bob: You physically take the specs from the customer? Tom: Well... Tom: No. My secretary does that or the fax.

Are you Down Under because my calendar still says 3/21? I remember waaaaay back when, before it went streaming, when Netflix linked your FB profile to your Netflix account. I went in and rated EVERY MOVIE I had ever seen. My FB friends got flooded with hundreds of Netflix ratings on their FB feed. They were not happy and I…

The opening two paragraphs fondly reminded me of my blog post from last year: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/community/solarwinds-community/geek-speak_tht/blog/2017/01/12/it-portrayed-in-hollywood#st…

How fortuitous. I live 10 minutes from historic Ellicott City, MD. and my family was down there at one of our favorite breakfast places last weekend (Their "side" of bacon is a literal pile of crispy bacon that my daughter devours). FUN FACT: Ellicott City, at the time known as Ellicott Mills, was the terminus (to and from…

Is it me or is there a drastic drop in postings to blogs today? Did Solarwinds throw a big party and I not invited? Not again!?!?!?!?!

As a seasoned BCP'er the first thought that popped into my head was, "They didn't commit to their BCP/DR strategy." Also, I read that the weekly scheduled generator test caused the fire. My questions as an auditor/BCP'er: 1. Is Monday morning the best time to schedule that weekly maintenance given that Monday is a high…

I read this blog post and I can't help but think of DevOps and SDN and the momentum that they bring with them. I, for one, have a love/hate relationship with silos. In my 20+ years of IT (almost exclusively IT Support & Service) I see where silos work and where they fail. Often times I have witnessed where the silos…

Ya know... In the beginning I had nothing but high hopes for the internet. I'll be honest, I am more than just a little disappointed by what it has become. However, it does warm my heart to see the re-emergence of the Christmas roast. We've had one every Christmas for as long as I can remember. yum!

Why did you type in ALL CAPS? It's 2017...

The cure... Appstack! Appstack! It's been a godsend for diagnosing bottlenecks and pain points in the application delivery.

I've been saying it for years. Each agency should collapse their IT structure (except the military) into a single IT organization. The Feds should have one CIO reporting into the Executive Branch.

To certain degree APM is tied to Expectation. What is the expectation on performance? Because the reality is that fast and slow is all relative. 25 years ago when my mom retired I was working for a company that was constantly disposing of hardware. I was constantly upgrading her home PC with faster and faster components.…

Huzzah! Huzzah! When I read stuff like this it makes me proud to be associated with such a great company like Solarwinds.

Empathy is part of EQ (Emotional Quotient). When I come across an associate who is lacking empathy I begin to question their EQ. And from there it becomes a slippery slope of management doubt which does not bode well for him/her.

One small critique... Under Step #1 I would put the 2nd bullet point first. This ties back to the Word-A-Day Challenge, "Ask". "In my career I have been in many situation where I have had to ask. What I have learned is that there is value in HOW you ask. You get more with tact, grace, humility, and appreciation than…

We just completed a Microsoft AD Security RAP under our Premier Service. They recommend we implement WEF (Windows Event Forwarding). Anybody play with that yet?

Blues Brothers should go far.

We are still learning of all the bells and whistles that come with O365. And that doesn't include the steady flow of improvements that Microsoft is making to it that we only seem to be made aware of about 1/3rd of. Speaking of which, does anyone know of a goo resource to subscribe to for O365 updates?
-
Excellent, thank you. AD is so HUGE!!! I've been looking for a guidebook to help me setup monitoring/KPI's/alerting for it all. This blog answers most fo my questions right off the bat.

Is their German campus anything like their North American campus? Their NA campus is ridiculously beautiful...
