I am getting the same for all my questions. It is even coming up for questions for last week that I haven't answered yet.

Tabletop exercises are great for exploring these scenarios. What do you do when you have job abandonment? What is the expectations? Do you have SPoF at key positions? Walk it through and then talk it out. Then document your findings and submit to leadership. Schedule a follow-up meeting to review. They will provide…

While on the surface the Prime benefits for shopping at "Whole Paycheck" may be good there are hidden costs. Amazon wants to learn "You!" All your shopping trends will be pumped into engines for analytics just like all shoppers clubs (However, no other shoppers clubs have the computing power of Amazon). We see what is…

Since most companies in the private arena perceive security as roadblocks to progress Step 0 is to sell security as a necessity early on and have it Incorporated into the mindset of all the Service Owners. Everyone owns a portion of the responsibility of IT Data Security.

Are we disseminating between Public and Private Clouds here? I played a lead role when my company migrated to our Private Cloud. "The key metrics you already track – application performance, memory usage, CPU utilization – should continue to be tracked in the cloud." We don't have a business need to encrypt data but…

Where does Retention fall into these categories? Given this month's Thwack mission data retention is an extremely important issue. Compliance, folks...

So you have a network rack. In the rack are (at least) 2 intelligent APC PDU's. There is a Cisco network switch, two Dell servers, an EMC disk array, and a Brocade fiber switch. There is also an AVTECH environmental sensor. All of this equipment is configured to send their SNMP Traps to your SIEM. So! What do you do with…

The rebirth of Blue Grass and the intro of 'New Grass'. I saw them during the Down From the Mountain tour along with many other blue grass artists. WOW!!

We're an SAP shop so we are taking a two-pronged approach. We do follow these three approaches, and protect the perimeter, but we are now building a moat around our Core systems. So, in case the perimeter is breached there is another layer of security protecting our company's heart and soul. If SAP was to go offline for an…

I've read a couple of blogs over the years where the author has rated the most useless powers of DC & Marvel superheroes, many of the heroes short-lived as the storylines were terrible. And in some cases some of our most popular heroes having some truly awful superpowers that just did not stand the test of time... If I…

Bump! C'mon people! This is a great idea!

I have a server running an application. I have a disk array. I have a switch. I have a firewall. I have a WAN. I have NPM/SAM/NCM//NTA/Patch Mgr/LEM How do I monitor and manage it all effectively? There goes my zen right out the window....

Frankly, I am exhausted. This is such a stressful time of year and I am doing my best to keep up and it isn't easy some days. So much self-reflection can be draining. :-) Ask my wife, I am not that interesting.

It warms my heart to see the Be Sharps winning so far

I have had several debates on the "speed" for O365. How "fast" does O365 need to be? I've broken it down to seperate discussions: Outlook, & everything else. There is a lower tolerance for slowness in the MS Office apps than there is in Outlook. I work hard to manage the expectations for the speed of email.

"Don't let your desire for structure consume you" adatole says to a process and efficiency junkie (me)! Yea... too late on that one... lol

Is it possible for you to confirm that I received mine?

I, for one, welcome our Cloud overlords. I have had it with hardware. My life's mission is to eliminate as much hardware as possible. I am willing to work through the Cloud's shortcomings.

Good morning. Today's question, 2/19, day #11. Is "SMNP" typo-ed? Or should I treat it as SNMP?

All good points. Automation is gaining momentum (again). We are replacing our obsolete ticketing system and we are looking to implement some of these tips when we roll it out.

Real Time Error Detection/Telemetry sounds like the Pie in the Sky brass ring. While those sub-categories are all common causes I still have yet to work with an IT Support team that isn't +85% reactionary. Either it is resources, tools, organization... to get these support teams in a position to demonstrate flexibility…

The Devil is in the details. Each major outage is its own monster. The basic procedural approach I have developed for my company when there is a major incident is to engage all Service Owners, determine who/what is impacted, identify the Communications Mgr and resources who will participate in the Incident Response Team…

Agree! Snapshots are a valuable tool to choose from in the data retention arsenal. It isn't a one-size-fits-all option however. I've seen where their value is immeasurable and I have seen where they have caused immense problems because techs didn't properly administer and lifecycle them. Any modern-day tech should…
