A comprehensive Data Management Strategy is a Must! these days. Big Data is voluminous and can easily spread. Security has to be a priority when controls are put in place. Don't do what we did and try to implement ecurity after the fact. A very steep uphill climb.

CNE? As in Certified Novell Engineer? I went as far as my CNA in 4.1 and then saw the writing on the wall for Novell, so I switched to Microsoft.

Thanks!

You said, "I’ve spent countless hours trying to find the perfect tool for the job. In fact, I’ve spent more hours searching at times than I have doing the work" That is, perhaps, the biggest resistance to putting the effort into automation from the people who would most directly benefit from it.

The old saying, "Good fences make good neighbors", is true. Fences allows for boundaries to be defined. But much like the"Invisible Fence" they are not designed to be impenetrable. Gates are commonplace. :-)

*grumble* *grumble* *grumble* I am in the middle of planning for a DR exercise now and I am practically dying some everyday. I am blogging it now and I will have a write-up for Thwack afterward, week of March 26th, if I am still alive. There is sooooo much more to it than this article outlines.

Your videos are always EGOT worthy. I am not sure if a "Stranger Things" theme would still be a relevant theme. The e-cards were fantastic. I shared them with my IT and I got huge laughs. 1,000 word user contributions of crazy stories read aloud by the Head Geeks. Some goofy prizes and games... Thwack points. Throw in a…

I will be particularly interested to learn what the best practices are for setting up Netflow in enterprise WAN's with local internet access.

For Question #5 there is a typo: "Spread the word" instead of ...Word"

Huzzah! I bet you made Taylor's day with that compliment. BTW, rumor has it that she is coming to Baltimore for the AFC Championship game and this town is going cR@ZeEEE!!!

Nice article. For those of you who read this and think that this is a no-brainer let me give you a recent example: My company is a shade under 2 years old. It's a merger of two older companies. Director from Company B took over responsibility of the Service Desk from Company A. For a while the Service Desk was servicing…

21 days down! 10 more days to go! These are going to be a tough 10 with the Christmas and New Years holidays and all. Hang in there folks. This has been another excellent exercise.

I am in Year5 of a 3-year project to reduce dashboards and move to the Single Plane of Glass. There are too many dashboards and on average we only care about 40-50% of the information provided. We captured those KPI's and recreated them in Solarwinds and made dashboards there. Our goal is to have a "One Stop To Shop!" for…

Hi! Have the Mission Shortcut pts. been posted yet?

I realize that this is "Application Stack", but considering there is a requirement to monitor the user devices should there be more of a focus on monitoring the performance of the transport layer? Not just LAN, but WAN and internet. "Network" is referenced in the above blog many times but it is buried with monitoring…

The movie that taught us of the bottomless riches to be had with rounding up. Plus, I used to be a waiter at Bennigan's. I had flare!

Can't make it but I look forward to the YouTube video so I can continue on with my DART initiatives here at my current job. Break a leg!

And to be clear as well... I was being facetious with my comments. :-)

Fair enough.... this one has taken a whole life of its own...

Can someone share the link for the survey please?

A common problem with silo'ed IT organizations: DBA's, Network, Systems, Storage, Applications... (especially without a centralized NOC) is that they baseline differently and rarely alert others when there is a problem. So core elements like baselining, UX, KPI's, are not shared. This fosters an unhealthy "Not It!"…

Funny funny stuff. Unfortunately I am not that clever. I read all of these and I am reminded of Andy from Parks n Rec.

I have a good buddy of mind that was leading up the Oracle Cloud initiative. They were bouncing him all around the globe and practically ruining his life. They let him go Monday as he says it isn't working. So this article is pretty much on point. War on cash?? Umm... this maybe closer than you think. SAP is beginning to…
