  • What version of APM has the scheduled unmanage? We're running 3.5 right now and I don't see that feature. The programmer wrote the script so that it will only be in alarm fro three hours. I have the alert set up so that it only checks it at 3:30 so we don't have any false alarms.
  • Thanks for the help and ideas guys. We've got one of our programmers writing a script for it now. I'm not sure how to keep it from showing that there is a problem when there really isn't. What I mean is, This program downloads the files once a day. The script is going to be looking for these files but the files will only…
  • I looked at the file age monitor but it's looking for a specific file name. These files will have a different name every day.
  • Yes, we are on active maintenance. This is what I was told by support. "Support is only provided for Licensed products. Any and all free tools or add-on components are supported via thwack, who's members include : Solarwinds Developers, Solarwinds Support Personnel, and users." Yes, I downloaded it from our customer portal.
  • I believe Trap Viewer is part of NPM, not NCM. Go to Start - Programs - SolarWinds Orion - Syslog and SNMP Traps. You should have Trap Viewer there.
  • So is the only solution to this to buy another copy of APM? Why doesn't Solarwinds provide something that keeps an eye on the server and database connection? We lost connection to our database and didn't get any notifications when another server went down. Supports suggestion was also to send them more money. So with this…
  • Is that because it's Server 2008? I didn't have to install that on the Server 2003 servers. Just the Support Pack.
  • I gave in and just put a txt file on the root of each share and created a template to check for the file. I modified permissions so only an admin can delete the file. Nagios is open source, maybe you guys could see how they monitor shares and just make something based off of it.
  • It's on a Windows box. I was afraid that the answer would require writing a script. I'm not very good at scripting.
  • I'm not sure which version of NPM this came with but we're able to send an alert based off of trap details. We're running NPM 10.1.2. If you don't have it in your version then I would suggest upgrading since it would give you what you need. You would be able to send an alert by looking for SwitchoverService in the trap…
  • So it really is hotfix 2? I downloaded it and the top of the read-me file says it's hotfix 1.
  • My customer portal shows the hotfix as hotfix 2. Is there already a hotfix 2 to fix hotfix 1 or is that a typo?
  • Did you ever get any help with this? I'm having the same issue.
  • That's funny. I opened a support case last week and they said they couldn't help me. They told me to post something here to get help from the community.
  • Thanks for the reply. Yes, we're using the MAPI monitor to make sure mail can be sent and received. I was affraid the only option would be to write a script. I'm not a script writer and wouldn't know where to start. If anyone knows of a script that I could use please let me know. Our email server is Exchange 2003.
  • Is says it can't find it. "Non-existent domain"
  • I'm sorry, I failed to mention that I can't monitor the hardware using UnDP. It just says OID is not supported. I'm monitoring the hardware of 30+ servers using that same OID so I'm not sure why it's not working on these Server 2008 servers.
  • Thanks for the quick reply. I've used several of the nagios scripts for monitoring linux servers but I haven't been able to get them to work in solarwinds for monitoring windows servers. It seems solarwinds is looking for a vbscript for the windows servers and none of the nagios scripts are vbscripts.
  • We're running 9.1 SP5. Was this a bug in version 9.1 that is fixed in 9.5?
  • Thanks guys. I will look into setting up the SQL Agent to monitor the database itself. I'm still looking for a way to monitor it from outside without publishing the site.
  • I don't think that would work. I need to monitor to make sure files are going into the directory. We have a program that automatically downloads data from a device. I can monitor the process of the program to make sure it's running but I need to make sure it's actually downloading the data.
  • Another possible way is to monitor the MAC address of the failover interface. If the address changes than you know the firewall failed over.
  • I asked support about this. They had a simple solution. Just create a separate alert for each node that you want to use this alert on. So if you have 1000 nodes, create 1000 alerts. Nice.
  • For me it's not interfaces that are removed and re-added. It's Virtual Memory, Physical Memory, and Disk Drives. I only have one Polling Engine.
  • I had the same problem and then I found this OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.4.1.1 Which is upsBasicOutputStatus. I was just wanting a notification if the UPS switched to battery so it was perfect for me.
  • I believe the threshold OID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3.1.4. Maybe set the alert for 10 to 15 degrees below the threshold.
  • Are you using Trap View to configure the alerts? If so, for the APC I used the Condition of "Traps received where any of the following are true" SNMPv2-MIB:snmpTrapOID is equal to PowerNet-MIB:apc.0.5.
  • Is there any news on support for McData switches? We're running version 9.1 and we're still seeing the opposite status.
  • You need APM to monitor services. Once you have it then it's easy to find and monitor services.
  • NPM is for monitoring the hardware. You want APM for monitoring the software side of the server.
