Not according to this: Can't Lie On The Internet - YouTube

I'm a big proponent of documentation. In relation to this subject, I really like checklists. I know most IT types don't like documentation and especially checklists - they seem unnecessary and/or elementary. But I'll use an example that many of us have experienced. Several years ago the team I worked on had a request from…

Personally I think Google has mis-represented their moto "Do no evil" has become "Do nothing but evil" from what I see of them.

Congratulations cgauthie and dilipsmith

Nice article and it's very nice to see SolarWinds continuing to develop and grow with the changes in IT.
-
I love that we have a group of people that are willing to write an opinion on SolarWinds products even when the gift limit has been exceeded. It shows a commitment to the product and the community.
-
Everything cycles - it just gets different names and terms. That said security and privacy are things that are becoming harder to enforce. There will always be those that have to have the latest and greatest and are willing to pay whatever necessary and take any risks associated (Thank you to all of those people - it's…

Nice application of the product and well done article. Every business of any size needs a SIEM tool and SEM has matured enough to recommend it to many, many companies. I especially like the intuitive nature of the product. I've used several SIEM solutions that require a "propeller head" to run them.

Words mean different things to different people. If you are with a group of security professionals hacking can mean the "bad guys" trying to get into your network or what you do on the inside of your network to research what is possible and fix/mitigate what you find. However, used in general conversation with less…

I have actually learned to control what I can, let go of what I can't and not to let any of it bother me. Stress wreaks too much havoc on peoples lives. This article makes some good points about planning and choosing your path rather than just wandering and seeing where one ends up.

SDN is scary for the hardware vendors as they risk losing their proprietary hold on the customer. We all know that every vendor will tell you that their hardware is compatible with every other vendor out there. Got a stack of vendor X switches and vendor Y has a good product - no problem, they'll connect. But what about…

Very interesting trip. There you go again posting photos of food and causing all of us to salivate.

The question from the 16th never got corrected for me, now it's showing an X. I tried several different times to re-answer and always received the message that I had already answered. Hope this doesn't affect my chances

Ya'll really need to start getting a lot of wrong answers - It's been a very long time since I've won anything. I really enjoy these missions.

Most of the people on my team cannot "technically" be called engineers - i.e. no degree / certificates / etc. But, our boss has found that adding engineer to our titles (at least around the office) makes us more productive. My team functions very well as a team and works together very well, but calling them engineers seems…

This is good information and supposes that the team will be pro-active rather than re-active. I see so many teams that are "swamped" so their goal is to get the DB up and running and move on to the next project. Sometimes this works and things just get slower and slower as time passes and eventually the "system" gets…

Great line "Your ability to think will always trump the capability of your tools." The tools help us do our jobs, but we are paid for what we know, how we use it and more importantly our ability to think through a problem/situation/etc.

I just came across something - admittedly I'm doing 2 steps where I could have done one, but . . . I receive an error when I first deploy agents to a server, then go back into edit the server and select the polling method of Windows Server Agent. I get the normal message that the device already has an agent, but may need…

Nice article, why oh why won't my SQL people take this "stuff" to heart.
-
I really wish we could do that here. Our current configuration "sort of" took that into the plan, but it wasn't properly implemented and the hospital just isn't beyond the "if it isn't broken, don't fix it - however it is broken in a real sense." I hope, some day, that I get to design a data center - I've learned a lot in…

matt.hill - that is my downfall, every time I over think a question I get it wrong - ok not every, every time - see there goes the over thinking again. smoked_angus - that's my trick as well - as long as I can avoid the above line it works pretty well for me.

It is funny how effectiveness is defined - externally. If a book sells well then the writer must have been effective and we need to listen. If a star becomes popular we need to buy the products for which they appear on ads? We've become a society where many don't have a solid standard from which they build their beliefs.…

congratulations bhumimmehta

I don't currently work in that part of the IT "world," but this tool is growing and providing a lot more abilities and useful information.
-
Some spoilers are worse than others . . . just keep that in mind.
-
Congrats ckirsch!

I'll have to dig deeper into this. The Syslog facility in NPM isn't sufficient and we can't go to LEM just yet.
-
At least it was fun. I haven't gotten many of them right.
-
As with all areas of IT this is just part of a cycle - put all the horsepower here, oh, oh, we could put some over there, nope bring it back in here, oh, maybe over there.

Gaggle of Geeks sounds about right - I'm sure anyone not a geek would hear the conversations as just a bunch of noise or a Gaggle.
