I'm attending the training today, really looking forward to getting a better handle on this new tool.

Congrats zehrina and bluthru - enjoy!

This was an interesting challenge. It's great that the Thwack Community really does feel like a community. There are people that I've never met or even talked to that seem like friends. There is discussions of various types, not your typical forum that is limited to the product of interest. I appreciate the company, the…

That would be better than having to tell your CEO that your replacement was going to have to restore 2000 servers.

Now that's software defined networking - the whole shootin' match on a USB.

Best of luck on the exams - keep us posted, we love living vicariously!

Even though Cisco's market share isn't what it used to be they are still considered the standard. So, yes, we should be concerned. In my opinion, one of the best things about this industry is the free market which causes the need and desire for multiple vendors and many, many options. It's through this competition that we…

I haven't answered today's question for that reason. A good case can be made for either answer depending upon how you are reading the question. This seems like a question that was constructed with the answer in mind and not in how others would read it.

When I worked for HP they mandated that everyone that could work from home was to do so. They reduced the office space and made shared spaces for people to come in occasionally when needed. Then after a few years they completely reversed and changed the rules to "if you live within 50 miles of an HP office you have to…

Good article. It's so often that we get stuck in the "weeds" of the day to day (that whole fix or relive the past) and don't move forward. It's better to set the past aside and prepare for the future.

You know how when men get old you see them shuffling along and talking , but you can't understand them. But, then occasionally you hear a word that you do understand. I'm imagining you, grumble, grumble, grumble, cloud, grumble, grumble, expletive, grumble, grumble, grumble, wi-fi, grumble, grumble. (Know that this is said…

Totally agree - unfortunately we have a lot of people with that mentality and so there's all kinds of "things" on our network. And on the wireless front we have desktop PCs in some areas, sitting right next to a wall outlet, with a wireless card being utilized. And there are a number of people with laptops set to work on…

So, if I'm reading this right you would like to be able to trigger an event and see the effects of the before and after on various metrics. Sounds like a practical idea.I can see that valuable to see in real time what happens to a cluster when one is pulled out or one is added.

mrs.alterego Today my profile said my next mission was SSL Link UP However, I already have my accounts linked I don't believe that I received the points when I originally linked them, but I honestly can't say. Should I unlink and then re-link the accounts?

I'm looking forward to everything about Thwack camp - well except for sleeping outdoors and the mosquitoes. I know my bosses always look at the "magic quadrant" for purchases. It might be good to highlight some ways that SolarWinds competes even though it doesn't currently live in the top right corner.

The ability to compare - real time - disparate information is a tremendous feature and a great way to see affects that we would otherwise not be able to find.
-
I found that quite funny myself. My first reaction was Ofda - then I read more closely. Those RED X's really, really irk me - fortunately I haven't seen any this month. Love these missions and especially the creativity of the team that builds them.

Wireshark has become a very important tool in our toolbox. VMWare tools for monitoring VMWare. Aruba provides nice monitoring of our wireless network We are looking to deploy SCUP for updates, but are currently using SCCM and WSUS for patching.

I like SAM, just wish I had more time to dig deep into it. There is a lot of information there.
-
As usual a very good article. Living the life you were given is my take away. Learn from others, but don't try to be them. Learn from your past, but don't live there. Always be growing and becoming a better you! (you as in the generic you - not you as in Leon - we all know you are already doing this and we appreciate the…

Good information. I've been around long enough to remember that it was important to keep multiple vendors in the network to make it harder to penetrate as a person would have to "hack" using one vendor/method/etc and then hit the next layer of protection and figure out what that was to determine the methods to use. Now it…

congrats @glodynto1

Good information, but along with today's mission question it gets kind of scary.
-
Good information. So often people go into a job search looking for "what do I get." Your comments reflect a whole person approach that makes thinking of the other person or people involved an important matter.

Yes, good mission and this engages the community - while helping Solarwinds generate interest in various products.

Why was there no All of the above choice for Tuesdays question Why, Why, Why I ask - That would be so, so, so very awesome. I want all of that in my data center.
-
How much have you "tinkered" with the Universal Device Poller? I've been able to monitor most anything with the use of that tool. (It seems a little intimidating at first, but it's a quick learn and once you get the hang of it you can do soooo much)

Sounds like a great trip. Hope you get some time to enjoy the Orlando area - there is so much to offer there.
