Yes, and if you answered Snails you really should check the humidity in your data center!

Agreed, when I did some coding (I even spent a few years teaching BASIC to high schoolers) I was very methodical and really stressed structure and documenting the code. One of the places that I worked used "tools" for coding - I called those people "box draggers." They would look at the left of the screen decide what they…

I know it goes without saying, but keep us posted. We love the updates.

They won't lock the door, but rather allow it to thaw and refreze a couple of times to spoil all your food and unknowingly poison you! The obvious hacks won't be as dangerous as the hidden ones. Like if your car wouldn't start that's inconvenient, but if on the highway it suddenly won't stop - that's a whole nutha matta!

I love the fact that SolarWinds get it. We need to grow and change constantly. I'm amazed by how many "tech" companies have ancient websites or documentation, or manuals, and worst of all ancient software. SolarWinds is doing a great job innovating and growing and we the Thwack members appreciate it.

Interesting articles. I notice the typical - blame the vendor - when someone does something unsafe in their environment. Well, sometimes there are vulnerabilities, and sometimes you just need to configure things correctly.

This is an area that is difficult for me as I prefer to trust people. Unfortunately this is one of those areas where one person can affect the entire operation - and more importantly the health and safety of the hospital patients. A single user can bring down an entire organization through a mistake or poor decision.…

EDS you say. I worked at EDS in Oklahoma City for 12 years (well a couple of those were with HP after the acquisition. I actually enjoyed both companies, but my experience was with the Medicaid division and it was the best Medicaid account in the country.

Nice, I really want to learn SWQL so that I can further customize my installations of the various modules.
-
I would add another element - relationship. I've worked for a variety of "bosses" and they each have their own styles. The ones that seem to garner the most respect and get the most out of their people are the ones that engage with them on more than just a professional level. I don't mean that they become buddies, but that…

We use those and I have posted a custom poller for them so that I can monitor them via SolarWinds. It seems redundant to pay for their services when we are already using SolarWinds and can monitor and alert from there.
-
Agreed - I have had to "play" a bit to make it happy with some things.
-
Wow, your bike looks almost exactly like mine.
-
Congratulations sierra1011 and dkatsanis enjoy your "loot!"

That's too funny, I'm the only one in my office that wears a sports coat everyday. I don't look like him though, I hope I don't look like him, please, please tell me I don't look like him - Although I would love to have some of his cars . . .

Leadership happens in may ways and at many levels. We all have areas where we can be leaders.

I've only been to 1 SWUG so far, but I'm looking forward to more. Meeting the staff is awesome, meeting other Thwacksters is great and really helps build the community and there is much knowledge to be gained through the sessions. I love to see the posts from the events - it's kind of a mixed feelings kind of thing - I…

Yes, it would be a great Blog or session to see how to properly set this up. I'm doing some o365 monitoring, but don't have SAM handling that yet.

A friend of mine has a T-Shirt that says "I don't always test my code, but when I do it's in production." Cute - until you find that it's true. And so, with DR plans they are typically not tested until something happens (production). Testing is so critical to ensuring that things get back in order quickly - and as…

Expectations and testing. Our experience has been good as far as performance is concerned - but then we only have 2500 accounts and a Gig to the Internet. The "hybrid" configuration that was chosen has made management much more difficult and convoluted and I don't really have a clear idea of what we are getting by having…

I'm all for automation, after all isn't that what computers are all about. The part that is still a bit difficult for me is the scripting - I didn't want to be a coder, I don't want to be a coder, but it looks like I still need to code. Rrrrr

Yes, a bit Happy Birthday. I've said it many times but it deserves repeating - Thwack is one of SolarWinds BIGGEST assets. I've been a part of many product "communities" only to find that in general they have little value and generally finding that value is way more work than it should be. Thwack is useful, easy to use and…

Good idea, color makes things easier to identify.

Back in the day when I started with IT work I thought about programming - took some classes, and I still "dabble" a bit - but found that it just wasn't for me. I appreciate those that still do actual programming.

That last one is like Flintstones meets Speed Racer.

Although my "bracket" isn't doing very well I still really enjoy these.

I worked with a guy once that would look at the logs every morning and any errors he would write an exception. It took a bit of persuading to convince him that you can't just do that you have determine first if it's a file/folder that really needs to be ignored (i.e. temp files) or if there is a problem, then actually fix…

Great perspective on the term. I'd never thought of it in that light. Great points.

Seems everything we do in the information field is a two-edged sword. Social media has positives and negatives. The convenience of the web is also a bastion of evil.

Is it possible to link multiple accounts?
