Yes, customization of colors for everything would be helpful.

Nice article and helpful. I've found that if I install an agent when I first add a server to SolarWinds that often the agent doesn't get all it's "stuff." I need to go into list resources and then the agent fully installs. Using a tool like this could prove helpful so that I don't miss anything installing.

It's modern America shouldn't the leaderboard just have a big #1 and everybody's name next to that. Sorry, sarcasm is a specialty of mine.

We don't backup our actual SolarWinds servers only the SQL database. Reinstalling the software is quick and straightforward and restoring the database gets all of the customization and data that we have done.

We are using them to make Solarwinds our "single point of truth" for our documentation. Things like property tag, device location, startup/shutdown order and such.

Please keep us posted on the results - I haven't updated yet.

Yup, go to Settings - Manage Nodes - Click on Custom Property Editor. If you click in the right hand side of any of the column headings you'll get a drop down. Select columns and you'll get a list of all the custom properties that you have available. Check the ones you want to see and uncheck those you don't need. What…

Just as a test try setting it up with SNMP v2 that will only require a community name and not credentials - I suspect it's not fully negotiating. If you get results from doing that you know where the problem lies. I have an Aruba network (for the moment - we are replacing it in the next couple of months and I'm So very…

Community is a big part of what makes Solarwinds. The community has helped me solved problems, allowed me to share solutions with others and it makes it more fun to work with the products. Good job building the community DanielleH

For such situations I build the alert messages with variables for the information I need. i.e. Machine name, disk space, remaining disk space, etc. Those messages can be triggered by any alert that you want. So I would build an alert for the generic stuff such any drive with less than 10% space remaining and point it to…

This is a great move. I work for a company that has N-Able products and support isn't up to the typical SolarWinds products. I'd love to see them all here. yumdarling are you accomplishing things already - remember, set the bar low or they will expect a lot out of you.

I would post those in NPM and/or SAM since they are kind of the "core" products. Most people have one of those products and add the others on top of them.
-
I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand you want to have quality as a primary concern to make a certification valuable. On the other hand it becomes an expense to the individual many times.

This makes another good case for network monitoring, file monitoring, etc.

I've had similar issues. The first thing I would check is performance on your SQL server for this instance. Do you get the same issue if you reduce the Maximum number below 1000? That's probably a good goal, but testing with a smaller number would be a good indicator of the problem being with the SQL or something else.…

At my previous gig I did this and people really appreciated seeing live maps. Having been in New England more than once those maps were used to determine when people needed to be sent home early.

It varies widely with ISPs some figure you can gather the same information via different methods that they will give you SNMP read access readily. Others feel that is a security issue and don't allow it. Best guess would be to ask nicely and hope for the best.

The longest part for me is the backing up of the database, but you are correct the actual update can take an hour. I multitask a lot.

We're glad to have you hear, you bring a lot to the community. I agree that Thwack is a true community. When I first joined Thwack I was not expecting a lot. Pretty much every IT community that I have been a part if makes great promises, but in the end provides a stale, non-active little more than FAQ list, lethargic…

I saw your post on mapping out your network. I've worked for churches before and totally understand the limitations that you have. I'd be willing to discuss and help where I can.

Nice I have that same shirt and wore it last weekend - to the Opera!

Have you selected Asset Inventor for each of those devices? From within an asset in the Management box - select List Resources - it will take a few seconds to discover all the details and options. Make sure you have Asset Inventory selected on each item.

Do the Windows 10 devices have a local firewall turned on? Could be something that needs to be allowed through. I know Windows 10 does focus on security a bit more. Anecdotally, I recently installed a firewall on my home PC and everything worked straight up - except Chrome. I had to make an exception for that because…

Good breakdown. From most of my IT experience getting the proper documentation and process in place is one of the hardest parts. Either the team is small, sometimes just one person, and doesn't feel like it has time to do it, or the team is a bit larger, but overworked and getting ownership of the various areas can be…

OK, the actual solution is still forthcoming. The day that I posted this I was getting neighbors from a test S50 and now it's not pulling any longer. As they said in all the original Batman episodes - "Stay Tuned" (Insert your favorite theme song here) So the solution is two fold. I didn't have to add or update any Mibs.…

Have you found any information on this? We purchased NTM and without being able to pull this information it's pretty useless.

That's how I would interpret that, however I would be less concerned with averages unless the load on that server is truly 24x7. The average is going to include non-production hours and will skew the results. I would take a look at charts including just production hours to get a better handle on what the box is doing when…
