I've won a couple of things and everything always arrives. Sometimes it takes a while, but SolarWinds always keep their promises.

Right now just the WMI credentials. I just have several accounts that have been created over time for my 2 domains and I need to pare that down. I'd like to have one for each domain (with the exception of the devices that aren't actually on the domain and they'll have to have their own)

Have you tried Network Topology Manager? I think that may be what you need.

It depends upon how often you will update it. It doesn't interact with other Solarwinds products (in general) so you wouldn't gain anything by sharing the server. At that same time you wouldn't really lose anything since you already have the server running. A server would be accessible to everyone that needs access to it…

Good information and providing all the links makes it very thorough.

Keep in mind also, that if a device isn't "natively" supported, i.e. when you add it all the information you want is already populated, you have the option of building custom pollers that will pull anything that the device advertises via SNMP.
-
I hadn't really thought about that, but the screen refreshes can cause issues with time and placing you back at a different point than where you started. Good point.

I love how this group collaborates as a group.

That's a pretty broad question. If your looking to monitor the health of your Solarwinds installation it will be typical things like disk space, memory, etc. Be sure to watch carefully the growth of the database and percentage of completed polling. Much of this can be addressed through the polling intervals that you set -…

I use a lot of custom fields in my NPM build. Each site has a unique name and so everything can be sorted by site. If you don't use the Help Desk solution then custom fields could be helpful. I personally am trying to eliminate the use of outside databases or spreadsheets and trying to move the environment to a single tool…

Survey complete. Great ideas on the idea of notifications. I like having new changes and features pointed out so that I can better utilize the software.

This is an excellent question. I have 4 SW boxes, the primary SW server, a SW SQL server, a SW flat file server and a secondary poller. The update/restart procedure could be critical to "efficiently" maintaining these servers. I know the Configuration Wizard is almost magical, but a good procedure will save a lot of time.…

Wow, good article on a not so good issue. Thanks for the thorough documentation.

Very nice - I'm trying so very hard to get the rest of my team to see SolarWinds as OURS and not just Richards. Any suggestions on getting others to jump in a explore - I figure if they spend some time they will become as enamored with the products as I am.

This is terribly funny when you apply SolarWinds to the 12 steps. * We admitted we were powerless over Network Monitoring —that our lives had become unmanageable. * Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. * Made a decision to turn our network over to the care of Solarwinds as we…

Yes, include me in future requests.

Agreed - showing everything green is a great goal and once you are there it is much easier to maintain than to get there in the first place.

Orion can monitor anything that uses SNMP. If the product is not "native" to Orion you can create custom pollers. Let me know if you need help with that, I've done several of them. Here's information on setting the phones up for SNMP. http://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100012581

Can you give some examples of what you are seeing as not accurate. Are you trying to pull averages over time, instantaneous, etc?

At 198951 points, I"m just around the corner.

I'm level 16 in just over 2 years. The points make it more fun to participate, but the real incentive is the community. Thanks for sharing and encouraging us.

I've had a couple that I've had to uninstall the agent and then reinstall it.

Wow, welcome to 2017 indeed.

I was working with pollers for my APC UPS devices and noticed that the output does the same thing. What I found is that if you edit the Universal Device Poller - on the first page there is an advanced option (about the middle of the first page - sorry, don't have access to my machine at this moment). Expand that and look…

Problem solved Use a linear gauge and "Manually" add labels

Have you looked at: c:\Solarwinds\NetPerfMon.Gauges I'm thinking you could (make a backup copy of the file first) choose a gauge from there and change the values. It appears - it's an XML file by the way - that be default the different parts of the gauge pull from system variable, but you could probably change the…

Under Tickets - Search Tickets - Advanced Search. You could search by date / due / today or this week, etc. If that is what you are looking for you could build a Query for that and save it. It would then be easily accessible and you could even build a dashboard widget from it for a quick overview.

I'm in the process of planning just the same thing. Keep us posted on your progress.

I did that some time back - forgot the deactivate licenses part and had to make a call, but it all went quite well. I just backed up the database before starting just in case. But it went very well. Just built the new machine (I kept the same name and IP) Installed the software and when the configuration wizard ran I…

I'm looking forward to installing this upgrade. So far the comments are positive - that's always good to see before a change.
