Another reason to love SolarWinds - when the community builds something they post it for others to use.

I use the Universal Device Poller to reach into my Ruckus Wireless devices and pull information such as total clients, clients on 2.4 and clients on 5 GHZ and I'm able to build graphs from that. The Universal Device Poller can give you visibility into any device that you can poll by snmp on a ton of factors. For example, I…

Yes, this would be a great feature. There are some redundancies between products and upgrades get confusing at times when you have multiple products. Specifically, I have a secondary poller and have to update that by copying down the installer from the primary after an upgrade and then running it on the secondary. Not a…

Our current switches are Force10 - some of them map and others don't. I went around and around with SolarWinds and Dell support for nearly a year - both saying that the problem was on the other end. Finally Dell admitted that they don't advertise properly on some of the switches, but promise that the new ones will.
-
I love this feature, just hope we get to refresh our switching environment with products that are compatible.

Nice guide, I'll peruse it and add comments if needed. I love checklists as they help me not forget steps.

I'd say a small install of NPM should do most of what you need. Unless you are running a lot of apps SAM may not be worth the additional cost. And you can probably get by with no IP management or the free IP manager tool.

I have got to get deeper into SQL. Thanks for the good information.

Great presentation. Question 10 really, really, really should have B as the answer - that's an alert the whole team would respond to.

Very nice, I love to attend events like this.

My boss is a big PowerShell proponent and constantly pushing us to create scripts for jobs we do. That -WhatIf is derriere protectection

I totally agree with the notion that we need more privacy with the internet. However, often legislation gets put forth with some really good stuff in it and some really nasty stuff hidden in there. Sometimes we get garbage because we enact a bill that has good stuff and don't catch the hidden. Sometimes good stuff doesn't…

This is helpful. I need to get better with PowerShell, I pretty much just pull an existing script and modify it to my needs currently, but I'd really like to get a better handle on writing my own. Thanks for the post.

Nice, you might have a future in politics.
-
Very good tips, many of them are "common sense" but unless you've forgotten something on a trip, or faced one of those problems you might not think of these tips. It would make a good checklist to keep in or near your luggage for that next trip. Thanks for posting, helpful.

I have both submitted and used submissions from others. This is a great benefit to the SolarWinds platform.
-
I do not believe that Solarwinds has this. I personally use a tool called LAN Speed Test. It's worth buying the full version - it's like $12 for a full license.
-
Nicely done and very thorough. But did you have to put in that photo, now I'm hungry for donuts!

HP has done a great job of pushing the Aruba brand and it really is making strong inroads in the market. I can see the need for this to be supported at that level. I do wonder how much of that information is exposed through their API however.
-
What products specifically are you not finding support for? One of our clients uses Aruba wireless and we are able to poll them. Anything that I don't find (with any vendor) in "out of the box" configurations can be pulled via Universal Device Poller.

Nice write up!

Wow, very thorough. I started with NPM and that's easy for me. I wish I had more time to really dig into the Application side, there is so much that can be done.

He's signed up, attended part of ThwackCamp 2017 and getting excited about the points that he sees accumulating. Yee Haw

One of my co-workers has just been told "you need to learn SolarWinds" I'm certainly forwarding this on to him.
-
Very nice write up. I try to use agents were I can. They provide more information, generate less network traffic and so far have worked really well.
-
I love being a part of this great Thwack community and look forward to continuing to support and contribute. Thank you for the honor.

I think there is a feature request about this. I have the same thing going on with "Smarty Pants" I think I've completed it, but it still shows 50%. Rrrr OK, so it's a minor thing but it's irritating like a gnat flying around all day long.

Sounds a bit like a mission statement - as such, maybe. Aid people in optimizing and utilizing technology to efficiently communicate and increase their productivity and capacity toward job performance and growth. Facilitate growth and efficiency in organizations and lead business toward new visions and goals. Direct the…
