I've worked for several companies and feel your pain. One company named all their servers after Peanuts characters. Really so who really knows what Lucy does? Or Pigpen? Another, a church, trying to be clever used biblical names It's a little easier to understand that Peter was a database server, but again, really. As you…

I like the map, it's an interesting way to display a ton of locations.
-
I like that map, creative!

Pretty! I like shiny things! Here's one I created for watching temperatures.

Agreed. The team is always good about taking care of us, so they should appear pretty soon.

Sometimes it depends upon your network equipment. We run Force10 switches here and ran into the same issue. Some of the Force10 switches follow the industry standard, but some do not. Those that do now will not properly advertise the connections and thus SolarWinds cannot pull the information. I went around and around with…

I want to do this as a report that will print a chart like this for all of my Windows devices each on a single chart.
-
Congrats I found the same thing when I broke the top 100. One day is was 99 the next day 103, the next day 100, etc. and etc. - I've since broken the top 50 - I'm coming for you!!!

I'd run this question past SolarWinds support. There is enough difference between 11 and 12 that the database on the back end could be different. I've had great success with building a new machine and just re-pointing the DB - but it's always been within the same major revision.

The problem is on the network I show as 192.168.1.x. When the device tries to respond to the 192.168.1.x it sees it as an internal address and tries to talk to it's internal network rather than reaching out to the SolarWinds server. If either the SolarWinds server or this device were behind a firewall or router I could…

Thank you, I've contacted them for information.

Sounds like Bunchball could use a good patch management package. Here's a link they may find useful: Patch Management Software - Software Patching | SolarWinds Sorry to be a smart alack - no one every accused me of being too politically correct.

Squeaky wheels - MVP In our organization we call them "VIPs" generally translates to Pain in the ____ around here.

Just for understanding what does Buffered mode do? Is this something that should be done in general, or is this just for diagnostics of machines experiencing issues?
-
Utilization is not the problem, I monitor that, it's the total bandwidth available. IE we have 3 T1s for 4.5 meg - the other day we attempted to test a video stream and found we only had 3 meg available as one of the T1s was down.

Agreed - I'm finding that moving to LEM may be in our best interest as the Syslog function in the base product is a bit slow and often fails to return results due to time outs. We currently have a SIEM (that I really don't care for) so we can't justify moving to LEM, but come renewal time for the SIEM it may go "bye bye."

NTA shouldn't be too difficult since it uses a flat file database (of course it still kind of ties in with your SQL)
-
Thank you very, very much, that worked perfectly.

Congrats!

Solarwinds is currently only viewed by the IT staff so I can do pretty much anything I want with it. I haven't really tried that, but I will. Thanks for the suggestion.
-
Exactly - it would save a lot of steps in troubleshooting. If my "internal device" were to show a problem in netpath seeing the information right there would be helpful rather than having to cross reference what that device actually is, then go to the NPM, find the device and then dig in. OK, so that's not really all that…

I run it after each install, just to ensure there are no errors or issues.
-
NICE!!!

Keep in mind the Universal Device Poller can be used to create custom pollers for most any product as well. It will allow you to drill down into the device itself to discover the OIDs. I've never had to load a MIB file into Solarwinds yet.
-
Helpful and thorough.
-
I've opened a ticket with both Dell and Solarwinds. Will keep this thread posted.
-
I've done a lot with creating pollers for other things, but not quite sure how this would help with Network Topology Mapper. Is there a way to get NTM to pull from custom pollers?
-
I don't mind changing them one at a time - I just don't want to have to look at every one of them to determine if it needs changing or not. Reporting like this is very helpful.
-
Yes, the more frequently you poll and the longer you keep the data the more performance will suffer. That said a properly built out system can still perform very well while giving you all the information that you need. That's one of the beautiful features of the platform it can grow very very large and still perform well.…
