SRM is just on the main poller. (We have a main poller/web server, a SQL box, a secondary poller and a box for NTA) I don't have IPAM yet, but we are looking at various products for that to be purchased in the next year.

Good description of this tool. This tool seems like a good option, but there are so many. I'd be interested in how people chose the option that they did.

In a previous life I sold automatic gates so many of my customers were pretty well off. One of my customers got caught by that security piece. He kept sending his "staff" out on Jet Skis in the wee hours of the night/morning to pick up "supplies" from boats arriving a few miles off the coast. So he had to completely…

I wish all credit cards offered "one time use" numbers that you could use for a single transaction only.

Responsive and responsible - two key words that help summarize good customer support. In IT we so often get into our mode and do our jobs - which is good, but sometimes that causes the "not my job" responses. We must keep in mind that we are all providing support to all of our customers in some fashion. So even when it's…

Dang rschroeder a person could infer that someone posting a picture like that was, how shall I say it . . . . old! seasoned!

Being a rural hospital we get our bandwidth through the New England Telehealth Consortium so the pricing is deeply cut below "retail." That gives us the ability to have a Gig to the internet. So far shopping, browsing, streaming hasn't been a real impact to us. If we find it to be an issue our first step would simply be to…

I agree, but those decisions are made above me and I tell those that take it up the ladder and they choose to do what is being done.

Most of my money is going into the house at this point, but tech wise I want to get my Forza Motorsports back up and running. That will mean 3 new monitors and getting my "butt kickers" hooked up on the racing seat. At work I'm shopping for a USB monitor for when I'm on the road.

Very good suggestions.

Interesting information. Thanks for posting.

Thank you DanielleH wabbott lindsey.serrano - you all take such good care of us. Thwack is one of the biggest + for Solarwinds and you keep us active.

I'm not much of a follower of fantasy, but this is interesting and bringing along some interesting comments.

Nice article. I think that the future will have most things in the "cloud." But as IT professionals - if you've been in the business more than a minute - you realize that everything cycles. What's in the data center will go to the cloud and eventually what's in the cloud will come back. Remember when there were main frames…

Some of todays answers could be Resume generating . . . just sayin!

IT has become the central point for managing user "experience." Along with that experience is the users freedom to have said experience on the devices of their choosing - some like a large laptop, others a fixed desktop, some a tablet and others their phone. Years ago I worked with an administrator that felt like he need…

Thank you lindsey.serrano for all you've done to make Thwack what it is today. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Good set of best practices to set the foundation.

Agreed. There are many in management that equate "busy-ness or time spent at the job as quality." Our primary coverage hours (we cover 24x7) are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. We have one team member that is always getting high praise for being in the office until 7:00, or 8:00 - sometimes even 9:00 at night. That sounds impressive,…

Nice to see a video on this. It's a feature that I've used heavily.

We have just recently been tasked with identifying the "owners" of all of the applications that we support (somewhere above 400). This is great information to consider. I'm finding more and more that the human element is critical in all aspects of IT. Who is responsible? How does the team relate to each other? How easy is…

I ran the Beta of SAM and SRM and love the new interface, look and feel and the installer is great. I can't wait to try this out NetPath looks to be a real "stop the finger pointing" tool. If it's still in Beta I'd love to put it to the test.

Now that today's question is all sorted out: Remember to head on over to Network Braggin Rights - submit your story and vote Network Braggin Rights Mine is a PerfMon Saved my Bacon sort of thing - "It must be your network" - Just Sayin!

I was just introduced to this tool this week and I don't think that the name really highlights just how powerful this tool really is. This tool should be in every Windows shop.

There's so much for a security person to peruse through and it's so difficult to keep up. I suppose you are right on the account of automation becoming more important. But I think more than that will be the outsourcing of at least the "intelligence" portion. Things such as compilers for spam lists, virus lists, exploits…

Another SolarWinds extension let's see how this washes out.

Sounds like a nice tool - looking forward to trying it out.

Very nice, well detailed description of this tool.

What you whinin' 'bout. 100$ a year. $25 each on eBay. One for your "repairs" and 3 backups. That should do it, No?
