Very nice article on mapping. This is a critical area of all networks that so often gets neglected. This tool now allows a lot better customization and visualization than in the past and I'm really excited to get to use it with my customers.

Congrats bobmarley Congrats renek

Nice. I'm hoping they will extend support to Force 10 so I can take another look at the product.

I like this suggestion, the ability to customize based upon individual needs is important.

This is my second vacation of the year and I really should be unplugged - but the last time I did that I missed several days of mission questions, thus several hundred Thwack points and the opportunity at the prizes. That's not happening this vacation. Forget email, forget work, forget the phone - but keep Thwack handy. Do…

Server sprawl - then VM sprawl - now database sprawl - - - Say it ain't so!!!

SDN does have a lot of promise - I'd really like to hear stories of Thwacksters that have implemented SDN in their network.

The title could apply to most things. Age does matter, but maturity is more important and what determines how well something functions.
-
Congrats to each of you.

Social media, like any other tool, can be a benefit if you learn to use it wisely and securely. Unfortunately most people just jump in.

Please say it's A game table, not THE game table - I'm on my way there too!!!

My last place went to hybrid Office 365. I don't get it. I imagine that they had things configured poorly, but they had Exchange servers on site and in the cloud. Certain things had to be done on site other things had to be done in the cloud. Everything was much more complex and many times things had to be done in one…

This has been an engaging and very enjoyable "quest." Thanks for the idea and leadership on this adatole

Previous employer moved to Office 365 - In the Cloud. No problems, worked just like on prem, easy peasy. Current employer decided to move to hybrid (now I don't know if the blame lies with the configuration, the person on our side the configured thing or something else) but in a hybrid world for us everything is way more…

Very good point.

At my previous employer, we monitored Cyber Monday, but had enough bandwidth that it wasn't a big concern. But, for the off-site locations we did put in place bandwidth limits on the guest network to prevent that from interfering with production.
-
Good points. So many people rush to "the cloud" without considering all the ramifications.
-
Good article. It's a moving target, but with these tools you can maintain a set of standards.
-
Very nice, very thorough. We appreciate all of your contributions to this community.

More reliable wireless. We are evaluating vendors, but the boss is leaning toward what none of us want so this wish may not happen. More compatible applications so that we can retire the old O/Ss and migrate more to virtual. The team - patience as we have transitions of losing a key player and re-allocating…

Totally agree. Our team is about excellent customer service first. I'm a network engineer and seldom touch an end user device, but if I get a ticket that doesn't belong to our area we deal with it and then discuss witht he appopriate leaders to resolve the underlying matter internally.

Finding the root cause is a very critical exercise and yet it often gets neglected - fix the problem and move on. Without getting to the root cause the problem could recur or worse yet, there could be deeper issues that won't show until later and could cause major issues. An example from my past was a COLD system, Computer…

Nice, I'm considering a ground up rebuild of my SolarWinds environment and may steal some of this.
-
I've not looked into containers before - not on that side of the "world," but this looks like a great concept that I need to bring to our developers.

Commerce is changing and we see - almost daily - the fallout from those that can't change with it. While I do a lot of online shopping, I also know the value of in person and how much difference good customer service can make. Customers are changing in their attitude and habits.

YouTube (i.e. google) has a very specific agenda and I really don't like the idea of them being the ones to determine what is fake.

Interesting that you chose to spell Censors rather than Sensors. Unfortunately as government oversight continues to grow I fear that there will be Censors in cars to control certain behaviors. Of course it will all be sold as a "benefit" but just how much control should the government have over our lives. I'm not trying to…

I appreciate the SolarWinds updates their free tools. Many companies only update the paid tools and neglect the users that download the free ones. Yes, a lot of people will pull down a free tool and never purchase anything, but there are a lot that try the free tool as a test of how the company handles it's products and…

Bottom line of security is that the culture and thinking has to change. For so long the idea has been that we are "safe" inside and the network shell will protect us. Programmers got used to this and didn't include security within their applications. Users got used to this and kept their guard down for "known" entities.…
