That browser shortcut is a great tip. I can't tell how many times I've said "Doh" right after clearing a tab or two - yes you can go into history, but that's a lot of clicks.

Agreed, I like a little challenge, but not so hard that it takes more than one cup of coffee.

Mirazon did a webinar on Latency that was eye opening. Most of us think of one thing when we hear the term latency - maybe it's the round trip time of a ping, or the time it takes an application or web page to first appear, or even the time it takes to register that you are at the office before your first cup of coffee.…

Sounds like a good idea that may be rather complicated to implement. But please don't implement it like so many of the code writing programs that take what should be a simple 3 or 4 lines of code and turn it into pages and pages of code.

Good article. I especially like the comment about cloud outsourcing taking on some of the complexity. That is very true. In a previous position we used Amazon for servers providing streaming services and it was nice to be able to watch the stream count and see when a new server was needed and just have a single click of…

The first time I installed this product (I'm, NOT, a SQL guy) I immediately located issues within our environment. It's nice to see the improvements that are being brought to this product.

Nice article and great logic.

Good article. Good and proper notifications are key. How many times do we monitor in a reactive mode. It's critical to have valuable alerts that not only tell us when things are "down" but also when things aren't performing to the baseline so that we can head off issues before they become outages.

Love today's answers!

As IT people we strive to be "perfect," you know lot's of 9's in our uptime, both professionally and personally. No mistakes - in my environment mistakes and downtime can affect patients. So, admitting - to ourselves and others - that we are not perfect that we do make mistakes is often very difficult. A well functioning…

Good article, finally getting some time to dive into NTA

Nope, it was functioning properly - in 1984 mode!

I'm always trying to polish my writing skills, I'm always itching for more Thwack Points - what a great combination. Like Peanut Butter Jelly Galantis - Peanut Butter Jelly (Official Video) - YouTube

It's bad either way if you didn't watch the clip anyway.

Exactly. The automation needs to be full circle and not short-sighted. Let it help do your job and give you time to do things better and more efficiently - not just a stop gap.

"reality hasn't caught up to the hype" So often that's the way it is. Many IT shops still play catch up every day just to keep the "wheels on the bus." Let alone adopting radically new technologies. Sometimes it's busyness, sometimes it's budget, sometimes just "that's how we do it." The challenge is similar to scripting…

Yes, thank you for the fix.

This is one of the reasons I really love Solarwinds. The Thwack community is the best of any IT company.

Over the years I've had opportunity to attend a lot of events like this - some that applied to my products/job/etc. some that did not. But I've always been able to find nuggets of gold to glean from the events.

Transformers were great and had a big following, but Lego is dominate across all ages, incomes, personalities, maturity levels (yes, that's different than age - I know personally), countries and locals.

Expanding connectivity to additional agencies and clouds.

That is a great offering. It's good to see this extended and I'm certain there will be a lot of organizations taking advantage of this.
-
Me too. I had the same thing happen.

Wish I could travel and take in the things that you do, but since most of us can't Thank You for sharing with us.

Me too on that one - the obvious answer isn't the actual answer.

The interaction is great and a big part of what makes SolarWinds a great product.

Often during the holidays IT staff gets thin with end of the year vacations, change of season illnesses, snow storm I can't come to work today (cough, cough, I'm feeling poorly - no that's not a snowmobile you hear running in the background) and of course the holidays themselves. In a 24x7x365 operation the network can get…

When new controls are put into place so often there is pushback, but when they are properly implemented they do make an environment more productive. The key seems to get the team that will work with it to be on board and a part of the planning and implementation.
