That was a super cool video!! Well done to those who created it. We spend 5 days on the Gold Coast over Christmas so that was nice and we watched the fireworks for New Years in town. Now back at work and back on Thwack

I'm not a DBA but I still got the right answer. Not all answers are on the first page, clicking some of the links reveals all the answers you need.

It's always hard to judge what will be useful and what won't be useful. I remember building my first pc's in 1989 and having to install WordPerfect for most customers. As that's what everyone wanted and had to have. I even had to make the pc boot (using Dos 3.3) straight into WordPerfect. Took me ages to work out how to…

Totally agree. I've been working at the same place for just over 20 years and I each time a new manager comes along, new directions (and software and hardware) come along with it too. I hate to think how much money has been wasting on infrastructure that has been thrown out because something else was preferred. I've even…

Hammer Pants!! Hee ha, can't touch this

it says I can't do it anymore. Ah well, it was fun none the less!
-
Can I get a redo too? I should've read this text first.

Bottom line is the admins need to be trusted! I know some do unscrupulous things but someone needs to be able to do anything and everything. The key is to never abuse the power.

This is great news. I'm not really loving this platform. Hope the next one is better

Very cool.

Unfortunately there's always someone doing the wrong thing. As you said no one is perfect. Even the watchers.

Great mission! Thanks.

Happy birthday Thwack!!! It's wonderful to be part of it all. Here's to a looooong future!

Question 4 was definitely easy

Haha, it should be alright, I'm pretty normal! But that's not a Nascar, it's called a V8 Supercar. The main diff with them and Nascar is that the V8 Supercar looks like the road going version it is based on. They do run a control chassis though. They were in Texas late last year. Oh and did you notice the beer drinking…

Agreed, there needs to be both or at least SNMP should remain. I've not heard the term telemetry being used other than in motor racing

I've been using NCM for a while now and I have it doing weekly startup and running config backups. First I backup the startup config and an hour later I backup the running config. As part of the running config backup, I also have the job compare the startup to the running config and email me if they differ. This will mean…

I can't remember when I last used a cassette tape and it's about 10 years ago that I last saw a brand new car with one in them. Yup I know you can still buy players (probably not as readily available as record players) but thanks for sharing that with me. I can't remember when I last saw a cassette tape for sale in my…

"Do that to me one more time" was not one of my fondest memories of my childhood.

I used HP Openview and Ciscoworks prior to Solarwinds. HP Openview was just an expensive waste of time. No one could understand it! Ciscoworks was better but you had to do a course on it to get useful stuff out of it. It was not at all intuitive. Solarwinds on the other hand was a brief. Easy to configure and start getting…

Is today's question set up correctly? The answer is really obvious but yet it doesn't work. Could you please confirm question is ok, then I'll keep looking. Thanks!

I can't find it either. I wonder on which type of 2960 it will work on. When I try and look at it manually I get

With staff numbers continually being reduced, we have to rely more and more on being able to do things remotely. I do whatever it takes to get the issue resolved. Solarwinds obviously alerts us to any issues and then I just use whatever means to get problems resolved. Not all of our sites have IT staff, so sometimes it's a…

I would only install the daisy-chained switch on the proviso that there was a budget to do it properly. But sometimes I don't have a choice, I must get something in and operational ASAP. We do what we have to do but I do try and get it done properly afterwards.

Great mission, well done! It's really inspiring me to do the NPM 12 install very soon. The F5 monitoring looks fantastic and I can't wait to use it.

Great history lesson! Yeah the AWS outage was a pain. We move everything to the cloud thinking that things will be cheaper and will be up more of the time than if we still ran everything in house. I'm still not convinced we are saving money going with the cloud.Cloud solutions should never go down IMO. I'd never thought…

I did the quiz and I got the following error when I submitted my answers. So I did it again and I'm sure I picked the same answers again and then submitted it again and got. Just thought I'd let you know in case my answers are there twice. I probably should've done the quiz last week too! But I got too busy at work
-
Yeah the first one got me a bit as well. I then went back and re-read it and then it was easy. Then I looked at these comments and could have saved myself some time :D

I still haven't used Uber. There's just something about it that I can't warm to. I never catch cabs (unless it's for work so they pay anyways) so I haven't had a need for it. But in the time of need, I'd still pick the good old fashioned cab.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! I've got a set of the original floppy disk coasters - they bring back memories of days long gone by. I've enjoyed all the missions this year but was bummed to lose my MVP status after 10 years. I'll have to put in more effort.
