This would've been great to have, but again, we've resorted to writing our own custom monitoring executable and invoking it through a PowerShell script. We've done this for so many products/features at this point that we can almost directly port our entire monitoring configuration into other solutions from other providers.

No, but only because simulate doesn't send an email, just simulates it When I execute an email action for which I'm a recipient, yes I receive the email. I'm trying to see if a specific alert has successfully sent the email before, and I'm not on the distribution list the email is going to. I do not have access to our…

It should be using the SAM account you specify on the template. Double check your template and node settings. Typically my application monitors are set to inherit the credentials defined on the node, but not always. You may also be seeing an issue with PSRemoting depending on if your execution mode is set to local or…

This is a very useful utility, but I'm not seeing the information I'm looking for. It's listing the events I can already see on the application details page. I specifically need to see messages about attempts to send email. Example of what I'm getting in Message Center: 7/12/2018 4:32:22 PM Event Component…

The only email reference I'm seeing is issues with a PDF that doesn't exist for attaching to an automated report. Is there some kind of transaction log that shows something along the lines of "email sent to <address> at <time> as part of <alert>"?

A coworker came up with a fine solution: Script Arguments: service1;service2;service3, ${CAPTION} $services = $args.get(0).split(';')

You can do a try-catch on your WMI call and have success or failure output the message being returned to at least get pointed towards what's failing.

Found the solution. Orion expected "write-host statistic <variable or value expected as output>" before it would accept the output.

I would guess there's a column in dbo.nodes for "Comments" as I'm seeing all my custom node properties getting uniquely named column headers in the same view in my system. You could probably get what you're looking for by just adding "comments," in your SELECT statement. As an aside, I recommend using SQL Server Management…

I got this query yesterday from Shane on the customer support team and it showed exactly what I was looking for: SELECT TOP 1000 * FROM [dbo].[AlertHistoryView] where alertid = <ID of the alert I'm troubleshooting> order by 3 desc

You are correct, you need to add 'Add-PSSnapin SwisSnapin' to the beginning of your script. I've got mine set up like this to download the Orion SDK from an internal server if it's not installed for the user calling my script: try {Add-PSSnapin SwisSnapin -ErrorAction Stop} catch {write-host "You're missing the Orion SDK.…

This is a restriction of the Exchange 2010 PS snap-in, which doesn't support direct loading. The supported best practice method is to create a remote PowerShell session to your Exchange server, completely defeating the purpose of creating these tools as a snap-in IMHO. Connect to Exchange servers using remote PowerShell |…

This is possible by using Log Parser from Microsoft, which has a command line executable and SQL-style syntax to return whatever stats you want from IIS log files. A limitation I've read about it is that you can't parse multiple log files simultaneously. However, because SAM allows us to use PowerShell for monitors, you…
