In the past, questions and feature requests for the Orion platform in general have been steered towards the NPM module. Perhaps this may be a good time to create a WWWO post (and forum) for the Orion platform?

You all did an amazing job today, and I'm sure tomorrow will be stellar. Here's to all of the teams behind the scenes who allow/help/make this a successful and valuable event every year!

Voting for this idea, AND.... What would support look like? Application templates, hardware MIBs, hardware component mapping, ..., ...? With the Dell EMC data protection suite in mind, Orion could replace some functionality of DPM/DPA (data protection monitor / analyzer) which reports on the status of the data protection…

It would be really cool to see this status feature be able to poll Exchange Web Services (EWS) and grab a user's status from Exchange/Skype for Business: Busy, In a Meeting, Out of the Office, In a Call. Likewise for Microsoft Teams, Slack, or other such tools that track status and offer APIs.

That was a gnarly one. Thanks for raising awareness across the boards here as well. This was one of those few cases where we patched our DNS servers on the same night that the CVE was announced.
-
Welcome back! Thanks for all of your hard work on this. Looks great so far!

BTW, this is currently in the works and serena is gladly taking feedback! What We're Working On For Server & Application Monitor (Updated July, 2019)

A hobbyte.

Do you have the ability to create a very limited-scope Office 365 user that MFA can be turned off for. I know it's not ideal, but the increasing granularity of RBAC options might be helpful.
-
Should we look for any hardening of calls to our storage arrays using their specific ports and APIs? (eg: NetApp, Dell EMC, etc).

aLTeReGo wrote: You have some limited ability to control this today by placing only those tasks you wish to monitor in the root, and those you don't wish to monitor in a sub-folder in the Windows Scheduled Task Manager. Cool, didn't know that!

That Q is hard to answer for someone who doesn't use F5s and hasn't looked at the Network Insights for F5...but maybe I'll go do that to see what might be comparable and useful.

I agree, and yet...in an environment that has a lot of DCs, this could be difficult to present reasonably. (Probably fine for most of us, though!) Or...it could be a filtered widget that only shows warning/critical/unknown replication statuses. What are your thoughts on how this would be displayed?
-
I think you meant Visio stencils, which are reportedly on the "what we're working on" list as of 2018!

My inner grammar police thinks this is my favorite Thwack mission yet.
-
We have this same exact scenario in our environment. I'd love to see the feature added. For now, though, I have added a CustomThreshold property for volumes and updated the volume capacity alerts to factor in this custom property for any volume where it is not blank.

So glad I got today's question correct!

These are great suggestions! The simple idea of using Conditional Access policies for the credentials being used to monitor Azure/365 is a great improvement even by itself.
-
Congrats to all of the MVPs, and thanks to your organizations who allow you to use time to contribute to the community here. Without that this would all be much more sparse!
-
Agreed. I often know a portion of the name, but not the exact process (or service) name. This would help, especially with the old fixed page size lists that are used almost everywhere in the Orion platform.

Happy Monday! Have been busy (-er than usual) for the past few months, so I can't remember the last time I hit all mission questions, let alone got all green!

Forbidden love?

The clue for Monday, January 13th has an extra space character (%20) at the end of the hyperlink and results in a 404. It works if you click and then take the %20 off the end of the URL in your browser, or go straight to LA 2019.4 Release Notes as @sef pointed out.

Yeah, in my experience, the "service" monitor is for Windows specifically, and we are given a "process" monitor for Linux based systems.

Nice questions this week.

SAM now has the ability to poll with WinRM. (Thank you!) Now, please vote on this feature request to get WinRM polling at the node level (for compatible devices) in NPM: Support Win-RM for Node Details Polling in NPM

Dear Solarwinds, please drop everything (except for upgrade improvements) and add support for more granular permissions in the Orion platform. PLEASE. I don't care about performance, dark mode, support for new hardware, containers, or even API monitoring if they are stealing development resources from permissions and…

Ooh, I'm getting ready to [attempt to] build a mini WFH office in my basement, and that Nanoleaf would be a really slick addition! On a related note, I need to look for some sort of "on a call" light to put up. THAT should have been my first WFH purchase!

Thanks, done. I'd also love to see the results of more of these surveys!
