  • I found that option, and it is checked to enable it. I did find that on a lot of the individual subnets, it is disabled. Would disabling on individual subnets override this global setting?
  • Are they still responding to SNMP? Verify that SNMP is still correct on the nodes.
  • In my original post I was referring to Windows servers, but I have also noticed it to a lesser degree with Linux servers. The post you linked is very helpful in understanding how memory is displayed though, thanks for that.
  • A lot of it would be personal preference with regard to the setup, administration, and environment. I recently changed companies. At my previous company, we primarily monitored Windows servers using NPM and polling via SNMP. Enough of the information we needed to see was reported that way (CPU, memory, volume space). The…
  • I was able to ping from the additional poller, but I totally forgot about the SNMP options to accept from any host. Thanks Zak!
  • On the actual server (not in the web console), go to Start, Programs, Solarwinds Orion, Network Performance Monitor and look for Universal Device Poller (the icon looks like a green leaf). You can use this utility to add pollers for specific device types by adding the OIDs. Some of these you have to research the vendor,…
  • I have never tried to use a variable in the alert trigger condition. I have always used variables along with trigger actions. When it comes to trigger conditions I have usually explicitly defined the nodes or used partial naming such as "Node Caption Contains....". To be honest, I don't know if variables would even work in…
  • Any licensing you have can be split among the pollers in any way, keeping in mind that you don't want to go over about 12k elements per poller due to resource issues. However, I am not sure how the solution I mentioned would work with the scenario you mentioned. If you had a network drop between the two locations, I don't…
  • After I posted my reply, I realized that this posting was in the WHD forums. I have never used that product, but was just trying to provide info on the environments that I have worked with. I should have also elaborated a bit on the Help Desk or ticketing portion of what we were doing. At my previous company, along with…
  • Denys, Yes, I tried that. But there is some kind of issue (as reported in the original posting) where you cannot move a group up past a certain point. I have since worked out another solution to this issue by creating a new AD group and using that for my needs after pulling it in. Thanks.
  • Thanks for the quick reply. I removed the device and added it back in, and the issue cleared right up. I queried the db, and found only a few other routers with this issue, all routers that I have confirmed were updated recently. So, this looks to be something with the router config, as suspected. I am waiting to hear back…
  • Thanks so much for the explanation. I was hoping the Ignore List would be the way to go, but it doesn't look like that will work for me. It seems that I can't manually add addresses to it unless I do it on a database level, which is not an option right now. Nodes need to be found via discovery and show up in the results to…
  • I just checked that server, and it is being monitored via WMI and ICMP, which surprised me. A service account is being used for the polling. I can see drive and volume resources for the server, but of course no interfaces since SNMP is not set up. The Next Rediscovery is set for 2:22PM, a few minutes from now. The…
  • Thanks for the additional information on NTA and SAM. I figured that might be the case but wanted to mention it. I suspected NPM with the discovery and checked settings on that, but the settings indicate only our available networks, and no reference to the unused IP addresses I referred to. So right now it looks like IPAM…
  • I should note that IPAM is one of the modules that I have the least experience with.
  • Matt, Thanks a ton for answering so quickly! They are on the same server, so I will incorporate an upgrade to NPM as part of my change control. This is a bit intimidating as far as upgrades go, so I am very grateful for the help.
  • Should note that the Solarwinds environment at my new company is fairly new, and I am just getting familiar with the setup, but I see a lot of similarities to my old environment.
  • Thanks much for the info Jiri. I think we are going to look at upgrading here (currently on 7.1.1) and taking it from there. I will let you know how it goes, whenever we get it done.
  • Somehow the order changed after I inserted the images. The Edit Group would come first, followed by the Add & Remove.
  • Thanks I am seeing the same thing, which is what I was wondering about. I will probably go the question route as well since most of the locations are locked out. I guess this functionality is for higher tiered contributors to the community.
  • As I think about it, that suppression rule might be stating "If I have a node with this name, suppress alerts". In that case, it finds the node name, and suppresses all alerts, not just alerts triggered for that node. Try removing that suppression condition, and test the alert. If it fires the email, then add the node you…
  • Thank you for the reply Michal. I appreciate the information. I do suspect that DB operations were an issue. Unfortunately I am no longer at the same company I was at when I posted this question, but I was still hoping to get some general input, which you provided. I was aware of the polling engine to elements ratio, but…
  • The only time I really had to log into the additional pollers was at upgrade time. The upgrade process for the additional pollers is a bit different, in that an Additional Poller package has to be downloaded and run. Other than that, I did all my work from the primary.
  • Well, that explains it a bit. What I see differs from what you posted in your screenshot. In our environment, I do not see the Alert Escalation tab at all. I am curious if this can be changed in configuration, and will have to look into it a bit more.
  • I would like to figure out how to clear these entries, but can't see how I would do so in Solarwinds. Would I add the addresses to an Ignore list? It seems like this is something that needs to be cleared up within the VM environment.
  • Yes, we are using quite a few of the SW products, right now it looks like NPM, NTM, SAM, and IPAM. How were you able to resolve it?
  • Thanks for the helpful information Matt! I was hoping that would be the case. I am going to go forward with my change control and get the upgrade done, following the instructions I have posted and your additional details.
  • At my previous company we had a defined Server Commission process (as well as a Server Decommission process). The Server Commission process was tracked through a ticket in Altiris HelpDesk, and was assigned to all pertinent parties for their step. These steps were defined in a Server Commission workflow document that could…
  • Couple screenshots to help (I cut off the actual device names):
  • Ah, kweise and I were on the same page it seems. One note, if you are manually entering the values in there, make sure you use the { and not parentheses. It can be fairly small and difficult to tell. One time I accidentally dropped parentheses in and was driving myself crazy as to why the variable wasn't being pulled in.
