Thanks!

Agreed, it's hard to argue with cleaner sources of energy. The people that argue against clean energy are the same types of people that argue against the idea of a self-tuning database, or software-defined networking.

Sounds good, just wanted to make sure you knew about DPA. Let me know if you ever have questions!

I'm OK with the government making an effort to keep citizens secure.

Check out this book, the Cult of the Amateur: http://amzn.to/2mma6OW I wrote about it six years ago here: Book Review - the cult of the amateur , that's about the time I started to understand just how awful of a place the internet was becoming. It wasn't just the mean comments from anonymous profiles. No, it was the lack…

Yeah, it's nice to have a good team of DBAs on hand.
-
Ouch. That does not sound like a good time.

Not sure I understand the comment. DPA supports SQL Server, and much of the content was SQL Server centric. can you give me an example of what you mean here? I'd like to clear up any confusion, thanks for watching!

Yes, testing is vital. And this is where test driven development really shines.

Yes, but most metro areas that have Uber already have similar apps for local taxi companies. When I was in the UK I used Hailo, and then found out Hailo worked in Barcelona, too. When Uber started, it was fairly unique. In the years since, there is lots of competition, expecially from local (and legitimate) taxi companies…

Dislike.

I hope that it can find the cure for cancer, but cancer doesn't have the same rules as a game of chess.

I'm guessing that the people committing these crimes aren't that smart to begin with. And, for the ones that are, likely have burner phones.

It certainly looks that way, but I'm going to wait to pass judgment on him. I don't believe that only he would be selling stock at that time, other executives would be looking to dump. And many of these sales are planned well in advance, too. You can't just execute trades like that at his level, it takes time, everything…

Well, if you are near Newington, CT, that's the appetizer I would recommend.

The DBA s are usually the last to know, but the first ones that need to do something.

All good questions.

Yes, and yes!

Yeah, I wrote about having a data center on Mars... https://thomaslarock.com/2014/07/vm-snapshots-performance-learned-love-martian-data-center/

What I find most alarming is how a person can be so dead set against the FCC vote on net neutrality and be completely blind to the censorship and discrimination being done to them already by websites such as Facebook.

I don't believe Dropbox saved money, the article is not reporting the costs of managing their own infrastructure. At best, it's buried in the details.

See my comment above, I included a link.

Welcome!

I've seen similar issues with Windows and SQL Server. Funny how the technology base we all use just leads us to the same problems no matter what brand-name appliance we purchase.

I can't imagine any society, here or on other worlds, that doesn't use a form of currency. But I can hope.

Just checked again, they are still up. Now teaching my son some vi so he can crack open a password file.
