I had not thought about the impact to the bottom line for department relying on revenue from tickets. That is an interesting point to ponder.

Wait. If that's true, then I can plant bacon next to an egg and a loaf of bread and grow breakfast sandwiches! I love living in the future!
-
Yes, that can happen. I've also seen server instances with little to no workload have monitoring tools installed, and the tool can then be shown to be majority of resource usage but only because it's the only thing running!

Welcome!

Ha! No controversy introduced with that comment, it is completely true and applicable to anyone in any role. You want to operate on an island, you are going to struggle for some basic items. That's how it works. And thanks for the additional list of items, much appreciated!

It happens a lot.

Try downloading the game on your phone, if you are interested. And yeah, I really want to try that waterslide!

@"hakan01" DPA is gathering from the V$SQL_PLAN table, AFAIK we don't add hints to queries as they are being executed. If you add the hint to your queries, I believe the data will get stored in V$SQL_PLAN, and then they might get displayed in DPA. If that doesn't work, open a support ticket and one of our SEs can work with…

Yep, those are the stories I've been hearing as well. FWIW, it's *really* easy to migrate data from Oracle to SQL Server these days, and pay 10% of Oracle costs and get 10x the number of features.

Management typically makes decisions based upon data, or based upon instinct (i.e., a "gut feeling"). I've presented data to management that was ignored for their gut feeling. Had I known in advance, I could have brought different data and achieved a different result.

Pretty sure criminals are already using IoT to break into homes.

It's a different program than a certification, and yeah, I'd like to think it represents something a bit more.

I think all tech, and tech companies, have caused frustration over the years. I know I'm a Microsoft fanbois, too, but I do my best to have an open mind about all data platforms. Right now, Microsoft is on top, and the gap is widening.

Feel free to ask questions, I'd be happy to help you get answers.

Nope, I didn't even think that they could be stealing CPUs for mining. It just never occurred to me. But hey, why steal when you can get them to give willingly? I should get a kickstarter going where instead of money people donate CPUs.

Yeah, maybe we should spend time in school learning social skills. Some things are just assumed learned over time. But we both know plenty of adults that lack basic social skills when it comes to things like handling feedback...or giving feedback...to one another.
-
Agreed. I want some regulation, but I don't want Congress involved. I'm hopeful that EFF, or something similar, will step forward to help.
-
That's the question we need to consider now. I'd recommend you determine the retention policy, and delete anything older. We need to get out of our data hoarding habits. For data you still need to keep, you would re-encrypt.
-
You should try the game first. The content is taken from actual headline cases. It's interesting to see how a politician is caught through the use of a few photos on social media, for example. It can almost give you hope for society as a whole.

That thing is huge and now I'm wondering why there isn't a market for super sized eggs.

If the Cubs meet the Sox I would suggest they ask for it to end in a tie. That would be best for all concerned.

This is where blockchain becomes invaluable, as you could use blockchain to verify the magnets on the road as being authentic.
-
Yeah, that was the case at a previous company of mine, too. I ended up building a process to locate all possible logins for terminated employees and revoke logins from database servers once we were notified. That process got folded into a larger termination process that was mostly automated once HR pushed a button.

Having the right tools makes all the difference in the world. You get to cut through the blamestorming and focus on where the problems are located.
-
Yeah, and Netflix has a ton of stories like that one on how they use their data to make their service even better. I am fascinated by these stories.

I have a pair of Uggs.

Yep, when you go to the cloud, you can't always just "life and shift". Most of the time you need to rethink your architecture. Things like connectivity cannot be taken for granted, and require specific coding.

I believe that the current version of the pod is meant to be brought up to the surface for repairs. The current pod is not the final version, I don't think. It's all still part of the testing. It's almost like the moon landings, you try things in stages, making small progress each time and learning as you go.

I don't think that is a fair comparison. Nokia was a hardware company, and Microsoft has never been serious about windows phone. And Nokia was the end of the road for Ballmer and the old school regime. Just as that deal was being done, the developers inside of Microsoft were winning the war for moving towards an OS…

Agreed, no question.
