There are lots of people offering training out there, you really have to be careful to find the right ones. When I was helping to arrange for training classes at a previous gig we would look for those companies/instructors that not only had deep knowledge but offered hands-on training. I found that the best instructors…

I don't want to get into the nuances of Gartner reports, but Microsoft is the current leader in data platform technologies right now. This is a #hardtruth for many, I know.

The shrine just shows how old I am now. It's 20+ years worth of events.

OK, that image needs to be shared. Are you on the Twitterz?

Those are great questions. I'm afraid I don't have specific answers though. I would suggest you open a support ticket and get some feedback from someone on the engineering team.

I want to like this 1000 times but each time I do I cry a little.

I've sampled their worscht before, it's legit street meat. Worth a taste if you ever have the chance.

I want to ride this thing and I want one installed at the Austin office for THWACkcamp next year.

One of the first things my mentor taught me was to script as much as possible. It was way easier to run a script at 3am than try to click your way out of trouble.

Great discussion points here! I'd like to add my thoughts as well. Not because I have something new to say, but mostly because I like the sound my fingers make on the keyboard after I've had 4-5 cups of coffee. Most teams are built independent of other teams. Network team, server team, DBA team, etc. They are silos by…

If you want life to move slower, we should just use Bitcoin. It can take hours to process a transaction.

It's about overload. Slack enabled me to go from one inbox to 91 inboxes. It's just the latest in a long list of productivity tools that start out great, but don't work as well once everyone is using them. I also found it difficult to stay connected with user communities, as Slack offers no way to block other users. This…

SQL will release memory, but not always. For example, if you are using the 'lock pages in memory' setting, then the O/S won't be able to make a call to SQL for those pages because the O/S can't see them (thus one of the reasons Task Manager is a dirty, filthy liar). In a perfect world, however, SQL will coexist with…

No, I keep the secret ones on a floppy drive, much more secure these days.

It's a standard cookie sheet, and it's a full roast (7 ribs). I sear the outside and ends, then put in an oven at 200F degrees until the inside temp reaches 130F. Oh, and it's encrusted in kosher salt. After the meal we make beef stock to use for pho. Every piece of that roast beast is used and one of these years I'm going…

I wish I could upvote a million times. Maybe we can get mandevil and bmrad to bump it up a list somehow.
-
Yes, that is a similar scenario, as you are describing locking/blocking which is a natural precursor to a deadlock scenario.

Interesting topic for discussion. My question back to you is this: who is seeing signs of a problem? In other words, if everyone checks their dashboards and nothing is showing up as a potential bottleneck...who is lodging a complaint in the first place? Are we talking about an end user that simply calls to complain that…

I do not, but I suspect we could find a way to put something together.

If the sample is truly random, then yes, you don't need a large sample.

It does seem silly, but I'm hopeful it's just a v1 of a system that will get better. But home much time is enough time? I really don't know.

Nice! I'm not sure I can get away with that here, but I know in Austin some gas stations are wonderful, like Rudy's.

Agreed, they have been a bit tyrannical in how they conduct business. And the fanbois can be tone deaf most of the time, too.
-
Wonderful new features! I especially love the Perfstack enhancements. This was an eye-opener at VMworld and Microsoft Ignite as people were excited to see metrics from all the different layers in their enterprise.

It's like riding a bicycle. Once you get started, it's easy to keep going.

Whoa, that's crazy!

Thanks for the feedback! You just made my day, week, month, and year!

Well, it's not the cloud provider at fault here, it's the users that don't know what they are doing.
